Job Overview
A healthcare organization in Show Low, Arizona, is seeking experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurses. The RN will provide direct care on a 10-bed Medical-Surgical unit with telemetry capability in every room. This position requires strong acute-care Med-Surg experience, sound clinical judgment, and the flexibility to support other Medical-Surgical areas based on hospital needs.
The unit offers a 36-hour weekly schedule with no routine cancellations.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to Medical-Surgical and telemetry patients
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments
- Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing plans of care
- Monitor patients for changes in clinical condition and initiate appropriate interventions
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments according to physician orders
- Monitor telemetry and collaborate with monitor technicians regarding rhythm changes
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Collaborate with physicians, Charge Nurses, PCTs, HUCs, telemetry technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and nursing practice standards
- Adapt care based on patient acuity and changing department needs
- Float to other Medical-Surgical units as needed
- May float to ICU to care for appropriate Medical-Surgical overflow patients
- Provide pediatric care when appropriately trained and qualified
- Perform other nursing responsibilities within scope of practice as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- Current Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Arizona licensure
- Minimum of two years of acute-care Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
- Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
- Experience caring for acute Medical-Surgical patients
- Ability to manage telemetry patients
- Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills
- Willingness to float to other Medical-Surgical units and provide appropriate Med-Surg overflow coverage in ICU
Preferred
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification
- Telemetry experience
- Experience caring for pediatric patients
- Previous experience in a hospital-based Medical-Surgical unit
- More than two years of acute-care nursing experience
Department Information
- 10 Medical-Surgical beds
- Telemetry capability in every room
- Typical day-shift RN ratio of approximately 1:5, adjusted based on patient acuity
- Typical night-shift ratio of approximately 1:6
- Pediatric assignments may be approximately 1:4
- Telemetry technician support
- Charge Nurse support
- Patient Care Technicians and Health Unit Coordinators
- Nurse Managers provide oversight and rounding but do not routinely carry patient assignments
Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week

- Floating may occur to other Medical-Surgical units
- ICU floating is limited to appropriate Medical-Surgical overflow patients
