As a Machinist Level 3 located in Commerce, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
Our Commerce, CA site is in search of Machinist 3 to join our growing team on 2nd shift – 2:15pm – 11:45pm ( 9/80 schedule).
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Machinist 3 you will work on and inspect the next generation composite structures.
In this role, the machinist is responsible for but not limited to:
- Sets up and run multiple production machines (5-Axis CNC mills, Lathes)
- Executing advanced milling operations such as compound angle cuts, contouring, boring angular holes, helical and spiral milling, serrating, and cutting gears, splines, honing, and keyways
- Interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; using hand tools and precision measuring instruments; performing standard shop calculations; and marking out stock material for machining
- Performs machine operations (including reworking parts) such as cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, and reaming parts
- Performs machine operations where the materials, tooling, and sequence of operations have been pre-planned and established
- Makes necessary machine adjustments and reports improper machine functioning or cutting action for correction
- Aligns and fastens work using standard fixtures and established methods
- Installs and adjusts cutting tools consistent with type and size of material being machined
- Follows established manufacturing methods using standard production machines, materials, and tooling
- Adjusts feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts, per documentation
- Inspects parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers and comparators
- Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
- High school diploma or GED and 4 yrs of additional education and/or related experience 4 additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- CNC 5-axis machining experience required
- Experience with composite, honeycomb, and aluminum materials, forging and all hard metals such as stainless steel and titanium.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications
- Experience with GD&T
- Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups
- Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds
- Experience running machines and setup
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates degree or Trade School certification w/ minimum 5 years of experience.
- Experience with HAAS GM2 5-Axis Controller
- Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part.
- Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.

Primary Level Salary Range: $61,100.00 - $101,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
