Reporting to the Director, External Relations, this position plays a valued role in the Public Affairs team at Extendicare and supports external communications for the organization as a whole. 
 
The ideal candidate is highly organized and collaborative, has a strong understanding of external communications fundamentals, is comfortable with technology and has an interest in health care and seniors’ care. 
 

This position is based at our Markham Ontario head office. Extendicare offers a hybrid work environment. 

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Regularly maintain materials to support the organization’s media relations, including a media response library and coverage tracker 

  • Lead media monitoring and reporting, including producing a daily media report for internal audiences 

  • Conduct quarterly accuracy reviews of content on all home websites and the organization’s main websites, including ensuring home leadership names and organization-wide stats are current 

  • Support drafting and posting content across multiple external channels, including our websites and social media channels  

  • Assist with event planning and execution, including liaising with external vendors 

  • Update statistics in external materials on a minimum quarterly basis 

  • Support content planning, scheduling and development for websites and social media. Lead publication of digital blogs for both Extendicare and ParaMed 

  • In collaboration with others, maintain a library of images and regularly recommend images for use in organization-wide materials 

  • Support quarterly reporting on public affairs initiatives 

  • Provide support for Government Relations, including drafting correspondence, briefing notes and presentation materials 

  • Work collaboratively with a variety of team members in both the External Communications and Government Relations functions 

What we’re looking for:

  • 1- 3 years experience in communications, journalism, government, health care, advocacy or related fields  

  • Proficiency with social media strategies and tools (e.g. Google analytics, Hootsuite, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram) 

  • Familiarity with digital content production and publishing, including Word Press  

  • Exceptional writing skills to communicate to a wide range of audiences and with strong attention to detail 

  • Familiarity with video editing tools an asset  

  • Experience with MS Office, especially Word, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint 

  • Thrives in fast-paced, issue-driven and team-based environment, with a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and succinctly 

  • Involvement in political advocacy or experience supporting government initiatives an asset 

  • Ability to quickly shift priorities, manage competing timelines and be relentless in getting the job done with colleagues who care deeply about their work in making a difference by Helping People Live Better
