Duties & Responsibilities:
According to operational and seasonal requirements, the incumbent will be directed to perform the duties below in varying workloads and capacities.
1. Performs furniture moves, equipment moves and room setups:
- Moves furniture and equipment for special events and classroom setups.
- Assembles and installs furniture in support of moves and internal furniture requests.
- Disassembles furniture in preparation for storage, recycling and disposal.
- Set-ups and takes down of classrooms, functions, and special events.
- Assists with office moves Including furniture, equipment, and other related items.
- Maintains seating inventories in classrooms and meeting rooms including classroom resets performed during each intersession.
2. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks performed in the buildings & grounds:
- Daily early morning litter patrol of parking lots, empty exterior garbage cans.
- Daily campus perimeter and planter litter patrol, remove trash.
- Trim shrubs, bushes and low hanging branches on trees as requested.
- Weeding of areas as required.
- Dig holes and plant small trees as requested.
- Sidewalk snow removal and salting.
- Ensure adequate watering of lawns, flowers, and plants during warm months.
- Maintains reflective pond, cleaning, removal of debris.
3. Performs shipping & receiving duties for the College:
- Receives a wide variety of goods including hazardous materials, heavy goods such as refrigeration units, pianos, lumber and building materials and checks and signs for all incoming supplies, materials, equipment and other goods; follows up on returns, incomplete purchase orders and back orders.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of clerical records related to such transactions using Workday or other software.
- Notifies suppliers and recipients by telephone of errors or shortages in deliveries; maintains records relative to such errors using Workday and other various logs.
- Is responsible for delivering shipments to the appropriate departments or other College locations.
- Coordinates pickup and delivery of courier packages and mail.
- Receives and dispatches couriered packages for departments using courier company’s software to record and document.
- Packs and dispatches regular outgoing goods and large postal deliveries.
- Maintains manual and electronic WHMIS records for all WHMIS covered materials used on campus.
- Maintains a store inventory of paper, stationery, and miscellaneous supplies for the College.
- Reconciles shipment quantities against purchase orders and assesses condition of widely varying items including machinery, equipment, books and instructional supplies.
4. Performs other related duties or tasks as assigned.
- performs small local deliveries such as college mail to post office, as required
Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Minimum six (6) months of related work experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment or large institutional setting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge and training in use of computers. Experience in the use of Workday or similar system would be an asset
- Knowledge of WHMIS regulations and guidelines, including procedures associated with chemical spill clean-up, and safe handling and delivery of dangerous or hazardous goods such as leaking containers.
- Knowledge of post-secondary educational supplies, office products, equipment and materials used by Langara College an asset.
- Knowledge of courier service providers and various procedures such as particulars regarding local, national and international destinations, including customs documents, manifestos and video declaration forms.
Skills & Abilities
- Must be physically fit and able to perform manual labour and heavy lifting. Ability to handle heavy objects (up to 50 to 100 lbs) safely and efficiently.
- Ability to use and safely operate grounds related tools such as gas powered leaf blower, hedge trimmer, chain saw, extendable tree branch lopper, pruning shears.
- Ability to operate college owned diesel powered bobcat.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written communications.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators and external contacts.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and regular access to a personal vehicle.

- Ability to work in inclement weather.
- Ability to work in major and minor conditions of dust, dirt, fumes, heat, cold, noxious odors, noise, confined work spaces.
Hours & Days of Work: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Hours may vary based on department needs.
