Academy of Art University is seeking a Shop Technician for the School of Industrial Design to work directly with students, faculty, and staff to support the shop environment. This individual should have excellent communication skills and a passion for student success. This position is on-site in San Francisco, CA.

Experience with CNC, Metal Fabrication, 3D laser printing a plus!

Responsibilities:

  • Process student 3d and Laser files for output

  • Verify files are print ready and payment has been made

  • Co-manage digital queue of 3D projects

  • Submit supply requests of materials and parts requiring replacement to shop Manager

  • Parts extraction and bed/head cleaning

  • Laser cutting of remote student files

  • Maintain and clean Epilog Laser systems

  • Troubleshoot software/translation issues with student projects

  • Execute preventive maintenance on all systems

  • Perform general rapid prototyping lab housekeeping

  • Cover the wood and metal shops

  • Issue and receive tools from students using Web checkout

  • Write tickets assist report after assisting students or faculty

  • Maintain machinery-change blades, belts, and discs on saws and sanders

  • Assist students in the use of machinery and tools

  • Enforce safety and correct use of tools

  • Submit supply lists of tools and parts requiring replacement to shop Manager

  • Maintain running inventory of tools

  • Ensure that shop is neat and that students clean up after themselves

  • Participate in and adhere to the cross-training program for lab and shop technicians, ensuring the ability to perform multiple roles and support operations effectively during periods of short staffing, as required by the University, with comprehensive training provided.

  • Assist shop Manager as need in operation of shop

Compensation: $24.00/hour
