Organization's Summary Statement:

The Job Counselor Advisor provides guidance, support, and resources to individuals seeking employment opportunities or career development. This role involves advising clients on job search strategies, career planning, resume writing, interview preparation, and skills development to help them achieve their career goals. The advisor also works closely with employers, community organizations, and educational institutions to connect clients with potential job opportunities.

Preferences:
3 - 5 years of experience providing counseling/advising services to a federal TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers program.

The Counselor Advisor works with students on social, cultural, personal, academic, and career issues; prepares student evaluations and formal reports; and assists with the admissions process and orientation.

Responsibilities

(60%) Academic Advising/Counseling/Mentoring:
- Provide professional, personal, social, career, and academic counseling on an individual and group basis to students.
- Serve as the primary Academic Advisor for freshman and sophomore years and assist with advising juniors and seniors.
- Assist in coordinating and organizing the priority registration process.
- Provide academic advising on course selection, majors, and four-year college plans.
- Provide student development support based on Student Development Theory.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for students served by Academic Achievement Programs.

(10%) Committee Responsibilities:
- Serve on committees that help initiate, plan, and coordinate programs for Academic Achievement Programs.
- Serve as a team member and leader on staff development and program development activities.
- Serve on admission and summer student evaluation committees.
- Participate in external committees, including the Campus Assessment Working Group - Retention Subcommittee.

(20%) Teaching:
- Serve as an instructor for a portion of EDCI 288D and EDCI 288E during the academic year.
- Assist with EDCI and EDCP course curriculum development in collaboration with other Counselors.
- Facilitate workshops and seminars for students.

(10%) Other:
- Assist in the development and implementation of a database system for tracking student progress.
- Develop and administer needs assessment and evaluation forms.
- Serve as a student advocate and liaison with campus agencies.
- Serve as a liaison for the college financial aid application process.
- Participate in outreach activities and student cultural and educational group events on campus and in the community.
- Conduct data entry and analysis using Excel, Access, and Student Access.
- Assist with student financial aid applications.
- Assist with proposal writing and related duties.
- Perform other responsibilities as delegated by the Director and/or Program Director.

Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry parcels, packages, and other items, walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree for an accredited college or university.

 

Experience: Two years of experience in counseling or advising.

 

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Knowledge of career development, job market trends, and employment laws.

Skill in using job search platforms, social media tools, and career counseling software.

Ability to manage multiple client cases simultaneously.

Salary Range
