Love Helping People but Also Want to Be Hands-On with Pets? You Don’t Have to Choose.

At Burlington Veterinary Center (BVC), we’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist to join our growing, progressive hospital. This dual-role position is a great fit for someone who enjoys connecting with clients, caring for patients, and staying engaged in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

At BVC, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional medicine, compassionate patient care, and a high-quality client experience. Our team members are cross-trained and may move between reception and clinical areas throughout the day, giving you the opportunity to build a broader skill set while helping the hospital run efficiently.

Whether you’re welcoming a client at the front desk or assisting the medical team with a patient, your flexibility and willingness to jump in will make a meaningful difference.

Why Our Veterinary Assistants / Receptionists Love It Here

  • A true dual-role position combining veterinary assisting and client service
  • Cross-training across multiple areas of the hospital
  • Hands-on opportunities to strengthen both clinical and reception skills
  • A growing, progressive veterinary hospital
  • A collaborative, team-based approach to patient and client care
  • Opportunities to learn from veterinarians, technicians, assistants, receptionists, and hospital leadership
  • A supportive environment where team members can develop new skills and grow professionally
  • The chance to contribute meaningfully to both the client and patient experience

What You’ll Do

Your day may take you from the front desk to the clinical floor and back again. You’ll work collaboratively with the entire hospital team to provide a smooth, compassionate experience for our patients and clients.

Patient Care & Veterinary Support

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during wellness and sick-patient appointments
  • Obtain accurate patient histories and communicate relevant information to the medical team
  • Safely and compassionately handle and restrain patients
  • Prepare exam rooms for appointments and procedures
  • Assist with basic laboratory tasks within your training and responsibilities
  • Support patient care and treatments as directed by the medical team
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas
  • Help keep patient care and hospital workflow efficient throughout the day

Reception & Client Service

  • Welcome clients and patients with warmth, professionalism, and compassion
  • Answer incoming phone calls and assist clients with questions and requests
  • Schedule and coordinate appointments
  • Check clients and patients in and out of the hospital
  • Process payments accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain accurate client and patient information
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
  • Coordinate communication between clients and the medical team
  • Help create a positive and organized client experience from arrival through checkout

Team & Hospital Support

  • Float between reception and clinical areas based on hospital workflow and team needs
  • Communicate effectively when transitioning between client-service and clinical responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, receptionists, and hospital leadership
  • Jump in where needed to support teammates, patients, and clients
  • Contribute to an efficient, positive, and team-focused hospital culture

What You’ll Bring

The right person for this position enjoys variety and understands that helping the hospital succeed sometimes means changing gears throughout the day. You’re just as comfortable providing compassionate client service as you are rolling up your sleeves to support patient care.

You’ll bring:

  • Previous veterinary assistant or veterinary reception experience is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • The ability to multitask and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort moving between front-desk responsibilities and hands-on patient-care support
  • Compassionate and professional client service skills
  • Confidence working with pets and their families
  • A dependable, adaptable, and team-focused approach
  • A positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed
  • A desire to learn, develop new skills, and grow professionally
  • A genuine passion for helping pets and the people who love them

The Extras You’ll Actually Feel

Why limit yourself to one side of the hospital when you can build skills across both?

At Burlington Veterinary Center, cross-training gives you the opportunity to develop beyond a single role. You’ll work directly with clients and patients, collaborate with different members of the veterinary team, and gain experience that can help you continue growing your career.

You’ll also be part of a workplace that values flexibility, learning, and supporting one another. Whether the front desk needs another set of hands or the clinical team needs support with a patient, everyone contributes to keeping the day moving.

It’s a role with variety, purpose, and plenty of opportunities to keep learning.
