About the Position

Harris Health is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Oncology to join the pharmacy team at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.

In this role, you will deliver optimal medication management across all dimensions of patient care while serving as a clinical resource to pharmacists and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. You will help develop and support innovative practices and service delivery models designed to provide cost-effective, safe, and effective medication management for the populations Harris Health serves.

Responsibilities include participating in multidisciplinary rounds, clinical initiatives, direct patient care, and educational and training activities. You will also provide education to pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals while serving as a preceptor for pharmacy interns, technicians, and ASHP-accredited pharmacy residents.

This position combines advanced oncology pharmacy expertise, direct patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and clinical leadership to help advance Harris Health's vision of pharmacy excellence.

Requirements

• Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy required

  • Doctor of Pharmacy preferred

• Experience and Residency

  • Option 1: Minimum of 3 years of progressive clinical practice experience within the specialty area and completion of a PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency program

  • OR

  • Option 2: No prior work experience required with completion of both PGY1 and PGY2 ASHP-accredited residency programs

• Licensure and Certifications

  • Texas Pharmacist License or eligibility for Texas Pharmacist licensure; licensure must be obtained within 90 days of employment

  • Texas Pharmacist Preceptor Certification within 90 days of employment

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of employment

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from an American Heart Association-accredited course required for inpatient positions and Outpatient Oncology before or within 6 months of employment

  • IV Sterile Certification required for inpatient areas and Fondren Pharmacy; preferred for other outpatient settings

  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification must be completed within 18 months if not held at the time of appointment, unless previously grandfathered
