Materials Technician/Driver Per Diem

Under the direct supervision of the Materials Analyst/Distribution Center Manager and the Distribution/Copy Center Supervisor, and within established Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures, the Materials Technician/Driver operates assigned vehicles for scheduled and unscheduled pickups and deliveries of various medical and non-medical supplies, equipment, and materials. This role also supports daily operations by performing a variety of clerical and materials handling duties to support efficient supply chain operations.

Education/Training:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses/Certification:

• Valid Massachusetts or Rhode Island driver’s license required.
• Must maintain a clean driving record in accordance with hospital policy.
• OSHA Forklift Certification (required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire).

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Strong driving skills with demonstrated safety awareness and reliability.
• Excellent clerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage and organize a sizable workload effectively.
• Physical ability to lift, move, and transport materials up to 50 lbs.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer literacy (email, inventory systems, data entry).

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

• Previous experience in a healthcare distribution center or general materials handling role preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with inventory control systems and delivery documentation processes is desirable.

Essential Job Functions:

• Operate assigned hospital vehicles safely and responsibly for pickups and deliveries.
• Transport medical and non‑medical supplies, equipment, specimens, documents, and materials between hospital departments, and off‑site locations.
• Verify delivery accuracy by checking items against requisitions, packing slips, or electronic documentation.
• Load and unload vehicles using proper lifting techniques and material‑handling equipment.
• Maintain mileage records and required documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
• Ensure timely delivery of supplies while providing courteous, customer‑focused service.
• Assist with receiving, staging, and storing materials within the Distribution Center when not driving.
• Support inventory control activities, including scanning, stocking, and replenishing supply areas.
• Follow all hospital safety, and regulatory guidelines during transport and materials handling.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance delivery efficiency and supply chain operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support Distribution and Supply Chain operations.
• Maintains valid Massachusetts or Rhode Island driver’s license

Salary Range: $18.71-$28.26

Salary Range Details

The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value Sturdy Health’s benefits package (if applicable), which includes among other benefits, healthcare/dental/vision and retirement. For annual salaries this is based on full-time employment.
