Data Center Design Intern

The Data Center Design (DCD) Team at Leidos currently has an opening for an intern to assist us in transforming Data Center Design. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting the Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) contract, the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under SMIT, the Leidos team delivers the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), including data center infrastructure design, network architecture, configuration management, and digital engineering services. The successful candidate will support the DCD team in designing, documenting, and implementing critical infrastructure solutions that enable naval operations worldwide while gaining exposure to cutting-edge digital engineering methodologies including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Support the development and review of Data Center Design Requests (DCDR) and associated technical documentation for network infrastructure projects across multiple naval installations
• Assist with operations including layout manipulations, block updates, and device insertions using Request for Changes (RFCs)
• Participate in data integrity verification activities, including device status research and quality control measures for configuration management databases
• Collaborate with modelers and model curators to troubleshoot and resolve project implementation issues
• Support the preparation of importable data files and ensure compliance with Data Center Operations (DCO) procedures and standards
• Assist with site survey documentation and facilities impact assessments for infrastructure upgrade projects
• Participate in digital engineering initiatives, including supporting uploads to Cameo Systems Modeler and learning MBSE methodologies
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), process documentation, and technical guides
• Support implementation feedback processing
• Attend team meetings and participate in cross-functional collaboration activities with engineering, operations, and quality assurance teams

Basic Qualifications:

• Enrolled in an accredited degree program in Engineering (any discipline), Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field
• GPA 3.0 or higher
• Technical knowledge or skills in one or more of the following areas: network design, technical drawing, database management, systems engineering, or IT infrastructure
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures accurately
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Ability to obtain a security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with database management, data analysis, or configuration management tools
• Knowledge of network infrastructure components (routers, switches, servers, storage systems)
• Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts or tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, SysML)
• Understanding of IT service management frameworks or processes
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, or collaboration platforms
• Coursework or projects involving systems design, network architecture, or infrastructure planning
• Interest in pursuing a career in systems engineering, network design, or IT infrastructure
• Previous internship or co-op experience in a technical environment

Pay Range:

Pay Range $48,100.00 - $86,950.00
