Description
Battery energy storage projects require engineers who can connect design intent with what is actually delivered on site.
We are looking to speak with Electrical Project Engineers for current and upcoming opportunities involving battery energy storage, renewable energy and wider power infrastructure projects across Birmingham and the Midlands.
Opportunities may be available with developers, EPC contractors, engineering consultancies, equipment providers and energy infrastructure organisations.
The role
Depending on the employer and project stage, you may support projects from detailed design and equipment procurement through construction, testing, energisation and final handover.
Typical responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing electrical designs, drawings, calculations and technical specifications.
- Supporting the delivery of utility-scale battery energy storage projects.
- Coordinating electrical interfaces with civil, mechanical, grid and controls teams.
- Reviewing single-line diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts and earthing requirements.
- Supporting the selection and procurement of transformers, switchgear, inverters, cables and balance-of-plant equipment.
- Managing technical queries, design changes and engineering clarifications.
- Coordinating with contractors, consultants, suppliers and project managers.
- Monitoring installation quality and resolving technical issues during construction.
- Supporting factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing and commissioning.
- Tracking engineering risks, actions, programme requirements and technical documentation.
- Ensuring project work complies with relevant standards, specifications and safety requirements.
- Preparing technical reports and communicating progress to internal and external stakeholders.
Your experience
We are interested in professionals with experience across one or more of the following areas:
- Battery energy storage systems.
- Solar or other renewable energy projects.
- Substations and grid connections.
- High-voltage or medium-voltage electrical infrastructure.
- Power generation.
- Industrial or mission-critical electrical projects.
Suitable candidates are likely to have:
- Experience in electrical project engineering, electrical design or project delivery.
- A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering.
- Knowledge of medium-voltage or high-voltage systems.
- The ability to review electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong planning, communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage several technical priorities at the same time.
Useful additional experience
Experience in any of the following areas would be particularly relevant:
- BESS inverters and containerised battery systems.
- Transformers and switchgear.
- Protection and control systems.
- SCADA and communications.
- Electrical balance-of-plant design.
- Earthing and cable systems.
- Distribution network requirements.
- Construction supervision.
- Testing, energisation or commissioning.
- UK electrical standards and grid-compliance requirements.
Location
Opportunities will be based in Birmingham and may involve travel to project or construction sites across the Midlands and other parts of the UK.
Candidates based in Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Solihull, Warwickshire, Worcestershire or surrounding areas may also be suitable.
Some roles may offer hybrid working, while positions focused on construction or commissioning may require more frequent site attendance.
