Job Summary:


The Industrial Maintenance Training Specialist is a hands-on technical leader responsible for assisting in developing the organization’s maintenance team. Approximately 50% of the role is dedicated to mentoring and developing the organization’s Maintenance Technicians through structured on-the-job training, coaching, skills development, and competency evaluations. The specialist documents progress, supports individualized development plans, and ensures technical knowledge is effectively transferred to build a highly skilled and sustainable maintenance workforce. The rest of this role’s time will focus on various maintenance functions including troubleshooting and diagnostic support for complex electrical systems, controls, automation, robotics, and manufacturing equipment.


Essential Functions: 

  • Provides mentoring and expert guidance to other Maintenance Technicians.
  • Interprets technical drawings or diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications. 
  • Diagnoses and resolves electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems with equipment.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems and performs root cause analysis in partnership with operations to solve problems and make improvements.
  • Performs programming and troubleshooting for automated equipment including PLC’s, HMI’s and robots to resolve performance issues.
  • Performs rigorous quality control checks and validation procedures on new installations or repairs.
  • Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Works effectively with co-workers and supervisors, sharing knowledge, resources, and experience to achieve goals in a timely fashion, while promoting respect, communication, and teamwork.

General Functions:

  • Collaborates with other members of the team to ensure that deadlines are met, while minimizing machine downtime.
  • Consistently abides by established safety rules, procedures, and regulations including wearing required safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Identifies and reports issues to department manager.
  • Works effectively with co-workers and supervisors, sharing knowledge, resources, and experience to achieve goals in a timely fashion, while promoting respect, communication, and teamwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • An associates degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least five years of experience as technician and two years of experience working with robotics technology.
  • Experience as a trainer or teacher.
  • Advanced knowledge working with automated PLC based equipment and processes, interpreting and building new programs.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation and Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
  • Experience with ANSI and OSHA safety requirements.

  • Physical dexterity: The employee must be able to bend, twist, crawl and reach while handling equipment and hand tools. The employee is also required to stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, and to hear.
  • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, and items weighing up to 80 lbs. occasionally, with the help of other employees.
  • Vision: The vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Endurance: The employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to elements: The employee will be working in a warehouse environment and may be exposed to varying temperatures and inclement weather conditions. There will also be frequent exposure to dirt, dust and grease and other compounds commonly used in the execution of the job.
  • Noise level: The employee will be exposed to moderate to high noise levels in the workplace for most of the day, due to the constant machine operation, use of electrical equipment and hand-held power tools.
