Ashland, Virginia --The schedule for the role is Sunday - Wednesday – 7:00am – 5:30pm. (Plus OT)

Compensation

The starting wage is $40 per hour.

Overview

The Sr. Maintenance Lead is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks associated with the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and upkeep of Distribution Center (DC) equipment, including conveyor systems, packaging line equipment, forklifts and other facility equipment and systems.  The Sr. Maintenance Lead also provides day-to-day work direction, technical guidance and training to Maintenance Mechanics and assists in coordinating maintenance activities and projects.

 

The position works closely with the Facilities Manager and Operations to prioritize maintenance needs, address equipment issues, support preventive maintenance activities and promote safe, efficient and reliable operation of DC equipment. Effectively and efficiently uses established procedures, tools, equipment and technologies to complete assigned duties while meeting safety, quality, productivity, attendance and behavioral Vitamin Shoppe expectations.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: (The reason this job exists is to perform these functions.  These functions are performed regularly, seriously impacts other jobs, and there are a limited number of employees whom performance of the function can be distributed).

 

  • Inspect, repair, adjust and maintain conveyor systems, forklifts and packaging line equipment, and other machines and systems throughout the facility.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction and technical guidance to Maintenance Mechanics, helping to prioritize work assignments based on operational needs, equipment condition and maintenance priorities.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and maintain control wiring and electrical circuits.
  • Install new electrical conduits and circuits; transformers; distribution, lighting, receptacle and control panels in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Troubleshoot diagnose and maintain Sortation System Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and implement programming changes.
  • Fabricate, repair, modify and weld facility equipment, supports, brackets and braces.
  • Operate, test, troubleshoot and diagnose problems and correct deficiencies in critical and non-critical equipment and systems.
  • Rebuild, refurbish, install and modify DC equipment including dock levelers, doors, racks and lighting systems.
  • Complete work orders and assignments in accordance with instructions, manufacturer recommendations and established policies and procedures.
  • Safely performs assigned functions utilizing established processes, procedures and tools while meeting performance expectations for safety, quality, productivity and attendance
  • Comply with Vitamin Shoppe’s policies, guidelines and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal regulations and OSHA requirements related to the storage, handling and movement of product.
  • Complete Preventive Maintenance documentation and review maintenance reports to identify equipment or maintenance concerns.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance projects and work activities, provide technical guidance and ensure work is completed safely, accurately and timely.
  • Train and mentor new and existing Maintenance Mechanics on equipment, procedures, troubleshooting techniques, safety practices and established maintenance processes.
  • Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for Maintenance Mechanics when troubleshooting complex equipment or maintenance issues.
  • Identify and communicate equipment issues, maintenance priorities, safety concerns and operational conditions to the Facilities Manager; recommend solutions and opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes and overall efficiency.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager with coordinating outside vendors, contractors and service providers as needed.

Other Functions:  (Incidental to the purpose or the job.  These functions are performed infrequently, and have little consequences to other jobs if not performed).

 

  • Generate e-mails, complete checklists and maintain records.
  • Identify parts, materials and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory of maintenance parts, materials and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: 

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of intellectual instruction and work experience

Required Knowledge:     

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical functions and basic safety protocol.

Experience Required:     

  • Five years related mechanical and electrical experience

Skill and Ability:            

  • Ability to work well independently
  • Ability to use all related equipment and maintenance tools including hoist, drill press, saw, forklift, grinder, test meters, arc welder, etc
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, schematics and written instructions
  • Ability to meet safety, quality, productivity and attendance requirements
  • Ability to do continuous lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime when required
  • Ability to train, mentor and provide direction to others.
