Description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves, and build a better world—together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Do you believe technology can make vehicle ownership more intuitive, reliable, and effortless? We do! Delivering exceptional customer experiences requires secure, scalable, and always-on digital platforms that connect vehicle owners with maintenance insights, service scheduling, dealership workflows, and proactive care capabilities. That’s where the Vehicle Care Engineering team makes an impact.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to design, deploy, and scale the core services that support vehicle ownership experiences for millions of Ford and Lincoln customers globally. In this role, you will build the digital backbone that connects customer mobile applications, dealership service systems, and in-vehicle digital displays.

This role offers end-to-end ownership of the systems you build—from architectural design and collaborative whiteboarding through implementation, automated CI/CD deployment, performance optimization, and 24/7 cloud operations. You will work in an Agile environment alongside product managers, UX designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing solutions that improve the customer vehicle care experience.

  • Full Lifecycle Engineering: Own the design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational reliability of secure, high-throughput microservices and APIs supporting vehicle care platforms.
  • GCP & Spring Boot Architecture: Develop robust, cloud-native services using Java / Spring Boot on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing tools such as Cloud Run, Cloud Pub/Sub, and APIGEE.
  • Multi-Surface API Integration: Design, build, and optimize clean, secure RESTful APIs that connect Ford & Lincoln mobile applications, dealership service systems, and in-vehicle digital displays.
  • Software Craftsmanship & TDD: Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD), write Clean Code compliant software, maintain high test coverage, and uphold code quality standards using tools like SonarQube and FOSSA.
  • DevOps & CI/CD Automation: Build and manage automated deployment pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, GitHub, and Tekton, supporting canary and zero-downtime releases.
  • Performance & Reliability: Execute API Load and Performance (L&P) testing, monitor production health using GCP Cloud Logging and Monitoring, and troubleshoot distributed systems in an “always-on” ecosystem.
  • Agile Collaboration: Partner closely with product managers, UX designers, and cross-functional teams in an Agile/Kanban environment to break down requirements into incremental, production-ready user stories.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead technical design discussions, conduct rigorous code reviews, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

We recognize that no one person will embody every single quality or skill listed below. If you are passionate about cloud-native software engineering and building customer-facing platforms at scale, we encourage you to apply.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Equivalent relevant practical experience may be considered.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive software-engineering experience building, deploying, and supporting scalable, cloud-based applications.
  • Experience developing backend services, microservices, and APIs in an Agile or Kanban delivery environment.
  • Experience collaborating with product managers, UX designers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting critical, high-availability applications in an always-on production environment.
  • Strong communication, technical leadership, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Required Technical Experience:

  • Strong hands-on proficiency with Java and the Spring and Spring Boot ecosystem.
  • Proven experience building and deploying cloud-native microservices and RESTful APIs on Google Cloud Platform or comparable cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with GCP services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, and Apigee.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design standards, JSON, OpenAPI, Swagger, authentication, authorization, and API security.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Solid background in Test-Driven Development, automated testing, code coverage, and Clean Code practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated release processes, and DevOps tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Cloud Build, Tekton, Terraform, SonarQube, and FOSSA.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, cloud operations, observability, application logging, monitoring, alerting, and performance analysis.
  • Ability to perform load and performance testing, diagnose distributed-system issues, and improve system reliability and scalability.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security fundamentals and secure software-development practices.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience building backend services that support high-traffic customer mobile applications, dealership portals, or enterprise service platforms.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and message brokers, including Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Apache Kafka, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with canary deployment strategies, blue-green deployments, feature flags, and zero-downtime release practices.
  • Experience with API gateway management, API lifecycle governance, and performance profiling.
  • Experience with customer-facing automotive, connected-vehicle, service, maintenance, dealership, or vehicle-care platforms.
  • Experience using Dynatrace, Grafana, GCP Cloud Monitoring, or similar observability and application-performance-management tools.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native application design patterns.
