At On Target, we are a fast-growing company that provides a variety of utility construction services such as power line, telecommunications, metering and smart grid services throughout the Northeast. Relocation assistance is available.
We are looking for a Safety Specialist to assist and support the development, training, and enforcement of all occupational safety and health initiatives required and/or related to utility construction and maintenance services, including but not limited to transmission, distribution, and telecommunications lines and related equipment/structures/facilities both overhead and underground.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all relevant utility construction safety and maintenance operating standards/codes/policies/guidelines in accordance with Federal, State, Company, and customer standards.
- Work directly with the Safety & Workforce Development Manager to monitor, analyze, and interpret new and/or changing standards/codes/policies/guidelines.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal and external team to provide direction and support on all relevant safety and maintenance standards/codes/policies/guidelines. Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Provide risk assessment and analysis support.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and compliance of safety policies/practices/training.
- Assist with compliance requirements such as, but not limited to, field safety audits, incident/accident investigations, various inspections, routine crew visits, etc.
- Perform safety trainings.
- Coach/mentor employees to encourage and ensure safety initiatives.
- Monitor completion of safety training requirements and communicate as necessary to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain and monitor internal and/or external safety reporting systems/files/records and provide reports as requested.
- Coordinate and consolidate information on all safety and training concerns from all business units to ensure swift resolution and consistency throughout the organization to promote a culture of safety awareness while maintaining optimal productivity.
- Works and communicates with internal and external team in a courteous and professional manner.
- Travel extensively including overnight.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet customer demands/schedule, including overtime and emergency duty as requested (nights, weekends, holidays).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent; BS and/or master’s degree in safety engineering or related field highly preferred.
- 4-6 years’ experience in corporate safety environment and/or leadership position.
- First Aid/CPR/AED skills and training ability.
- CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) certification preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License required; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of safety and health standards/codes/policies/guidelines for relevant utility construction and maintenance including relevant equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulations, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
- Strong computer skills: working knowledge of Microsoft Suite products required.
- Ability to successfully obtain and/or maintain required licenses/certifications/documents.
- Strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including public speaking), both verbal and written; a strong work ethic and be self-motivated.
- Strong analytical abilities and the ability to think strategically.
- Ability to operate/drive trade related equipment/vehicles preferred.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a DOT Medical Examiner’s Card (DOT Card).
- Operate a computer terminal for approximately 2-4 non-consecutive hours per day.
- Work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions including standing, walking, and working on uneven ground for the full workday.
- Must have the ability to see/distinguish colors and to hear clearly.
- Lift, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
