Description

5K Specialty Systems
Position: BAS Controls Technician
Location: Austin, TX
Reports To: General Superintendent, 5K Specialty Systems
Employment Type: Full-Time
5K Specialty Systems is a low-voltage systems and building automation company delivering structured cabling, security and access control, audio/visual, and BAS integration solutions for commercial, industrial, and specialty facilities. Part of the 5K Holdings family, 5K Specialty Systems is built on a foundation of technical precision, reliability, and client focus — delivering systems that perform.
Position Summary
The BAS Controls Technician installs, wires, calibrates, and tests building automation controls hardware in the field, then supports static and dynamic commissioning of the programming once it's in. This is the hands-on role that turns an approved BAS design into a working, calibrated system — and the technician who represents 5K Specialty Systems directly to the customer when servicing installed equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install BAS field devices, controllers, sensors, and actuators per approved drawings and specifications
- Run and terminate low-voltage control wiring in accordance with project standards and code requirements
- Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment (multimeters, network terminals, laptop)
- Support static (stand-alone) and dynamic (network-interactive) commissioning of software programming
- Set up operator workstations with associated software as needed
- Track and record job progress; keep the Project Foreman informed and complete paperwork on time (time sheets, work orders, on-site documentation, status reports)
- Label and document installed devices and wiring for as-built accuracy
- Serve as a direct customer contact when servicing installed equipment on assigned accounts
Required
- 1–3 years of experience in low-voltage or controls installation, electrical work, or a related trade
- Basic understanding of building automation devices and wiring practices
- Ability to read basic control drawings and wiring diagrams
- Comfortable working at heights, in mechanical rooms, and above-ceiling spaces
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites
- Trade school training or certification in electrical, low-voltage, or HVAC controls
- Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium/Niagara, Distech, or Delta Controls hardware
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
This is a field-based role requiring regular travel between active construction sites. The BAS Controls Technician must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights using ladders or lifts, work in confined or above-ceiling spaces, and comply with all jobsite safety requirements including PPE use.
