As a Medical Assistant on our team, you will collaborate with fellow staff to create a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients, families and visitors. You will assist with medication management, patient monitoring, administrative tasks and more. All your work helps ensure the best possible health outcomes.
A caregiver in this role works days from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist with performing screenings and treatments by gathering and updating information related to health maintenance, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests and documenting patient care.
Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
Maintain equipment, medical supplies and examination areas.
Assist in pre-visit planning by updating the health maintenance tab.
Perform administrative/clerical duties, such as filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an approved Medical Assisting Program
Military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
Completion of a clinical externship (Extensive clinical experience may be considered in lieu of formal clinical externship)
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period
Current demonstrated clinical proficiency
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
CMA, NCMA, CCMA certification
Successful completion of Cleveland Clinic Externship
Physical Requirements:
Essential Duties: This position requires knowledge of various aspects of patient care.
Must possess good organizational skills to balance clerical and clinical duties.
Work is heavy, constant lifting and moving patients, carrying equipment, supplies and material up to 50 pounds without help and over 50 pounds with the help of mechanical devices or other personnel.
Stooping, pushing, and pulling when moving patient or equipment into position for treatment.
Reaching for, handling, feeling and manipulation of equipment in position.
Physical Duties: This position requires frequent walking, sitting, and standing.
Frequent talking and listening when giving instructions and explanations.
Frequent use of the phone, fax machines, and occasional to frequent use of the computer.
Working Conditions: The majority of time the employee spends indoors in air-conditioned areas.
Potential for exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens is significant.
Clinical exposure to patients requires the use of personal protective equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
This position requires high exposure to infectious wastes such as blood and bodily fluids that mandates the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles as appropriate.
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
