The Role..
Reporting into the Merchandising Manager, the Merchandiser will own the delivery of sales, stock, intake and profitability targets across all channels. This role carries end-to-end responsibility for WSSI management, range planning and trading, and is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy while guiding junior team members. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with strong Excel skills, a commercial mindset, and a genuine passion for retail.
Key Responsibilities..
Sales & Trading
- Own the running and review of trading reports to identify best and worst sellers, and lead commercial recommendations to drive sales
- Own sales demand forecasting and performance tracking against targets, proactively flagging risks and opportunities and recommending mitigating actions
- Undertake regular studio visits to assess trade, and feedback insight to the wider team
- Analyse sales data, identify trends and make actionable recommendations to optimise range performance
Supply & Supplier management
- Build and maintain supplier production forecasts, at fabric, material and product level with the objective of reducing supplier lead times
- Monitor fabric availability/levels across the supply base to ensure optimal production lead times and minimising fabric liability
- Develop strong supplier relationships through regular meetings and proactive communication.
Range Building
- Build and own range building documents, option counts and sales and stock plans.
- Own range planning, ensuring the product range is commercially balanced, free from gaps or duplication, and aligned to brand strategy.
- Discontinuation and life cycle management
Collaboration & Supplier Relations
- Work closely with the Buying and Product Development teams to ensure future product ranges are commercially strong and reflect market trends
- Build and maintain supplier production forecasts with the aim of reducing lead times
Team & People
- Deputise for Merchandising Manager as required
- Manage and mentor junior team members, including Junior Merchandisers and Assistant Merchandisers
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required..
- Advanced in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organisational and planning skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships internally and externally
- Commercially minded with an ability to identify trends and translate data into actionable recommendations
- Problem-solving ability: able to identify and resolve issues related to stock, sales, or other merchandising challenges
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience managing or mentoring junior team members is desirable
