The Bakery Manager is responsible for the overall operation, leadership, and success of the bakery department within Farmer Joe's. This role oversees daily production, merchandising, inventory management, food safety compliance, and customer service while ensuring the department meets sales and profitability goals.
The Bakery Manager leads and develops a team of bakery associates, ensuring high standards of product quality, freshness, and presentation are maintained at all times. The position requires a strong focus on customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and creating an inviting shopping experience through attractive bakery displays and consistent product availability.
Key responsibilities include managing production schedules, monitoring inventory levels, controlling department expenses, reducing shrink, maintaining sanitation standards, handling customer special orders, and implementing sales-building initiatives. The Bakery Manager works closely with store leadership to achieve company objectives and support overall store performance.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of bakery, grocery retail, food service, or related experience.
- At least 1–2 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Experience with inventory management, production planning, and team leadership.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of bakery operations, baking techniques, and product merchandising.
- Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Ability to analyze sales trends and manage department profitability.
- Effective problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with ordering systems, inventory controls, and scheduling.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Culinary, bakery, business, or hospitality education preferred.
- Food Safety Certification (ServSafe or equivalent) preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in bakery environments with exposure to ovens, coolers, and freezers.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
