Description
The City of Roanoke's Department of Public Works is looking for a dependable, hardworking individual to join our Stormwater maintenance team as a Report Truck Driver. This full-time position works Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and offers a great opportunity to build hands-on experience in street maintenance.
In this role, you'll perform critical work that keep our streets and City safe and clean, including shoveling, raking, sweeping, and clearing debris and deceased animals. You will operate a dump truck along with a range of heavy and light equipment, and you'll complete pre- and post-trip checklists on all vehicles and equipment you use throughout the day.
You'll help coordinate and maintain daily work schedules, track job progress, inspect work sites, and enforce safety standards to keep yourself and your team safe on the job. During snow season, standby work will be part of the role, which may include some nights, holidays, and weekends as needed for snow removal, special events, or other emergency tasks.
What you'll need:
You'll need a high school diploma or GED, along with one to three years of related experience and/or training in storm drain or street maintenance, dump truck driving/operation, and heavy manual labor — or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Class B Commercial Driver's License is a plus, though you'll have up to 12 months from your hire date to obtain one if you do not already have it.
This role requires the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and experience with mobile work order systems is preferred. Additional tasks supporting the division may be assigned as needed.
If you're looking for steady, hands-on work that keeps our community's streets safe and functioning, we'd love to hear from you.
