Description
[What the role is]
Climate change is a global existential threat, and Singapore is doing its part to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions for a more sustainable future. The power sector contributes about 40% of Singapore’s greenhouse gas emissions. We need to significantly reduce the power sector’s emissions, while ensuring that the power system remains secure, reliable, and sustainable. To overcome our land constraints, Singapore is looking to tap on electricity imported from regional power grids, to allow Singapore to access cleaner energy resources outside Singapore's borders. The role will involve driving EMA's efforts on electricity imports and regional power grids, to allow Singapore to access cleaner energy resources outside our borders.[What you will be working on]
You will join a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team tasked to ensure that the regional renewable energy projects and electricity imports are implemented on time, through policy and regulatory measures, and partnership with stakeholders. Specifically, you will lead the Market & Regulatory Design (MRD) branch in the Energy Connections Office. In this pivotal role, your key responsibilities will include:
- Nurturing and guiding the MRD team to deliver the strategic outcomes for Singapore and EMA.
- Managing cross-agency policy and operational trade-offs for Singapore to bring in large-scale electricity imports
- Engaging industry stakeholders and financial institutions to seek feedback for policies on electricity imports
- Ensuring that electricity imports projects are implemented on time.
[What we are looking for]
Requirements
- Keen interest in energy transition issues and passion for the public service.
- 8 years of relevant experience in policy development, industry engagement and/or the energy sector, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

- Excellent verbal communication, analytical and critical thinking skills, and prepared to deep-dive into relevant subject areas.
- Strong understanding of technology concepts and trends, with the ability to assess economic implications.
- Familiarity with relevant tools and methodologies for techno-economic analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Analytical and detailed-oriented, with a proven understanding of different financing models/tools for infrastructure projects.
- Prepared to travel overseas for work.
Those with prior experience in electricity trading, industry engagement, financial modelling, economics or related field will have an advantage.
