About the Role
GlobalFoundries Quantum Technology Solutions (QTS) is seeking an experienced materials engineer to drive the development, characterization, and integration of advanced materials enabling next-generation quantum technologies. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in specialty materials and thin-film process development supporting photonic, superconducting, spin-based, ion-trap, and emerging quantum platforms.
This role is focused on identifying, evaluating, and integrating novel materials and deposition technologies while transitioning promising concepts from research environments into manufacturable solutions. QTS has identified specialty materials and deposition capabilities as key focus areas within its Quantum AME organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and qualify advanced material solutions for quantum device fabrication.
- Lead thin-film process development utilizing PVD, CVD, and ALD technologies.
- Evaluate and integrate novel materials into semiconductor manufacturing environments.
- Design and execute experiments to optimize film properties, interfaces, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Partner with process integration, equipment engineering, external research organizations, suppliers, and customers to accelerate technology development.
- Support contamination-control strategies and material qualification methodologies for specialty materials.
- Develop material specifications, qualification plans, and manufacturing readiness assessments.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and identify emerging materials and process opportunities for QTS programs.
Required Qualifications
- B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in semiconductor process development, materials engineering, or advanced technology development.
- Demonstrated expertise in thin-film deposition technologies, including:
- Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD)
- Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)
- Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD)
- Strong understanding of materials characterization, process integration, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- III-V semiconductor materials
