Manufacturing Planning Planner

Location: West Chester, OH

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Production Planner at our West Chester, Ohio office.   The Production Planner will generate the melt shop schedules for our steel making facilities in Mansfield, Ohio and Butler, Pennsylvania.   The Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating the production activities within the unit’s In Process Specification (IPS) and operational guidelines including any commercial or quality priority orders to ensure on time delivery of our steel products.  This role requires strong coordination between Customer Service, Priority Analysts, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Logistics 

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Review actual production to determine variations from plan or schedule, evaluate and implement appropriate changes to the next schedule(s)
• Communicate special situations/instructions to other planners, operating personnel, and/or sales personnel, as needed
• Recommend systems enhancement opportunities to improve schedule results
• Function as an alternate point of contact for Sales and Quality personnel to accommodate material requiring special attention and/or processing
• Inform others of exceptions/problems involving systems, inventory or operating personnel whether resolved or in need of resolution
• Create special schedules as directed by Quality, Operations or Research personnel
• Contact appropriate personnel regarding material held for the purpose of expediting disposition
• Travel to customers, outside processors and other Cliffs facilities on an as needed basis
• Develop and publish periodic planning/projection documents
• Work as a team player to support the mutual goals and objectives of the Manufacturing Planning department
• Support other Area Planners, performing tasks professionally, accurately, on a timely basis
• Interact with other departments professionally, courteously and informatively
• Available for weekend, after hours and holiday coverage
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree involving analytical skills or equivalent experience
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office and a strong proficiency in  Excel

• Highly motivated and possess strong analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations or Engineering
• Experience in heavy manufacturing
• A basic working knowledge of steelmaking/material flow a plus
