6-month interim contract to start ASAP

South West
£40.00-£42.00 per hour

Inside IR35 (via umbrella)

Hybrid working – 3 days per week on site

Are you passionate about safeguarding children and ensuring their voices are heard? We are seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) and Child Protection Chair to join our dedicated team. This is a pivotal role in driving best practice, promoting children’s rights, and ensuring robust care and safety planning for the most vulnerable in our community.

 


Your Role as Child Protection Chair/IRO:

As an IRO and Child Protection Chair, you will:

 

  • Chair Child Protection Conferences and Children We Care For reviews, ensuring statutory requirements are met.
  • Promote SMART, child-centred plans that reflect the voice of the child and safeguard their welfare.
  • Monitor and challenge practice standards, acting as a critical friend to improve outcomes for children.
  • Facilitate strong multi-agency collaboration and effective communication across services.
  • Undertake quality assurance activities, including audits and case reviews, to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide specialist advice and consultancy to colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Contribute to policy development and deliver inter-agency training to strengthen safeguarding practice.



Your previous experience as Child Protection Chair/IRO:

  • Professional Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in children’s statutory services.
  • Proven ability to engage meaningfully with children, young people, and families.
  • Experience in team management, performance oversight, and staff supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, care planning processes, and best practice standards.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of operational experience in a Local Authority setting
