Description

About Us

Summit Line Construction, a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR), is one of North America's premier utility construction companies. Headquartered in Heber City, Utah, we offer powerline and substation construction and maintenance services in a variety of utility markets. Like many Quanta operating companies, Summit Line continues to experience significant growth. As our national operations expand, we seek motivated individuals to join the team!

About this Role

About Summit Line Construction

Summit Line Construction is a high-voltage electrical utility contractor and Quanta Services company headquartered in Heber City, Utah. We self-perform transmission line construction, distribution system work, substation construction and maintenance, and renewable energy infrastructure projects across the Western United States. Our crews work in demanding terrain and conditions, and the equipment they rely on has to be ready. Behind every project we deliver is a support operation  people, tools, and equipment that makes the work in the field possible. That support operation starts in our shop.

Position Summary: The Shop Manager oversees all aspects of equipment maintenance, fleet readiness, and shop operations for Summit Line Construction's construction fleet  a mixed inventory of line trucks, digger derricks, aerial devices, tensioners, pullers, and support vehicles deployed across transmission, distribution, substation, and renewable energy projects throughout the Western U.S. This is a hands-on leadership role that demands equal parts mechanical aptitude, organizational discipline, and crew management, with direct accountability for keeping field crews equipped and their equipment safe, compliant, and running. The work is high-stakes: when equipment goes down in the field, projects stall and this role is the reason that doesn't happen.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Equipment Readiness

  • Manage preventive maintenance schedules for a diverse fleet including bucket trucks, digger derricks, wire tensioners, hydraulic pullers, material handlers, and light-duty support vehicles, ensuring all assets are field-ready and in safe operating condition
  • Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled repairs across all equipment classes, prioritizing field needs and minimizing downtime impact on active construction projects
  • Perform and oversee mechanical diagnostics on hydraulic systems, aerial device components, PTO systems, and specialty utility construction equipment
  • Maintain accurate service records, equipment histories, and warranty documentation for all fleet assets in the company's fleet management system
  • Manage annual inspections and certifications required under ANSI A92, ANSI/SIA A10.31, and applicable OSHA standards for aerial and digger derrick equipment
  • Coordinate third-party inspections, certifications, and vendor service work; vet and manage relationships with outside repair vendors, OEM service centers, and parts suppliers

Shop Operations & Inventory

  • Oversee daily shop operations including workflow prioritization, bay assignments, tooling, and parts staging
  • Manage parts inventory, consumables, and shop supply procurement; establish reorder thresholds and manage vendor accounts to ensure parts availability without excessive carrying costs
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant shop environment; enforce housekeeping standards and safe material handling and storage practices for fuels, lubricants, and hazardous materials
  • Ensure all shop equipment — lifts, compressors, welding equipment, overhead cranes — is properly maintained, inspected, and in safe working order
  • Track and report fleet utilization, repair costs, and maintenance KPIs to the Equipment Manager or Director of Operations on a regular basis

DOT Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure all commercial motor vehicles are maintained in compliance with FMCSA regulations, including accurate maintenance records, annual inspections, and out-of-service criteria
  • Manage IFTA reporting support, vehicle registration renewals, and permitting requirements for oversize/overweight loads as needed
  • Maintain driver vehicle inspection report (DVIR) processes and ensure defect repairs are documented and completed in accordance with DOT requirements
  • Stay current on applicable federal, state, and local regulations affecting fleet operations, utility construction equipment, and shop environmental compliance

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly supervise shop mechanics, lube technicians, and shop support staff; manage scheduling, performance, and day-to-day accountability
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and skills assessments; identify training needs and coordinate technical development opportunities for shop personnel
  • Foster a team culture grounded in safety, craftsmanship, and accountability — one where people take ownership of their work and look out for one another
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and retention of shop personnel in coordination with HR and Operations leadership

Safety

  • Champion a safety-first culture in the shop environment; lead by example in PPE compliance, lockout/tagout adherence, and safe work practices
  • Conduct regular shop safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments; document and track corrective actions
  • Investigate near-misses, incidents, and equipment-related safety concerns; complete thorough root cause analyses and implement corrective measures

Coordinate with the company's safety department on audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities
