Apollo Technical has an immediate need for a Senior Metrology Engineer in the Mooresville NC area
Position Summary
The Senior Metrology Engineer serves as the subject matter expert for dimensional inspection, measurement uncertainty, GD&T, and metrology best practices.
You will develop, validate, and improve measurement systems to ensure product conformity and compliance in an ISO 13485 medical device manufacturing environment, providing technical leadership for CMM programming, MSA, gauge development, and dimensional problem-solving while supporting manufacturing, quality, and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead dimensional inspection strategies for medical device components and assemblies.
- Program, validate, and maintain CMM inspection programs and equipment.
- Develop inspection plans, control plans, and measurement methods; interpret drawings and GD&T.
- Design, specify, and validate custom gauges, fixtures, and inspection tooling.
- Conduct MSA (including Gage R&R) and capability assessments; establish calibration and maintenance standards.
- Investigate dimensional nonconformances, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support FAI, process validation, PPAP, customer qualifications, audits, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and day-to-day support to inspectors, programmers, engineers, and production staff.
- Develop and maintain work instructions, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate new metrology technologies to improve capability and efficiency.
Qualifications
Education (Preferred): Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Skills & Experience (Typical): Hands-on CMM programming, GD&T, MSA/Gage R&R, gauge/fixture design, and dimensional inspection experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device preferred). Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and documentation skills.
