E10Position Summary
The Director of Instructional Design, reporting to the Executive Director of Innovation and Instructional Support, takes charge of organizational performance in curriculum development, design, quality assurance, and training for credit and non-credit programs. Responsible for aligning with CNM’s Vision, Mission, and Values, the Director provides leadership in curriculum design, course reviews, Learning Management System training, and best practices related to Quality Matters. They actively drive training opportunities within the Learning and Development area and support the creation of Innovative Programs for specialized modalities, ensuring Quality Assurance in courses. This role strategically oversees curriculum design, supporting the development of new programs and reviewing/redesigning courses through the college-wide internal program review process (CIPR). Additionally, the Director maintains a commitment to quality assurance in course design through ongoing reviews and training initiatives for best practices.Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead staff, encompassing hiring, onboarding, prioritizing, and assigning work, providing professional development opportunities, conducting performance evaluations, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making disciplinary and termination recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations, specifically focusing on mandatory training.
- Monitor, coordinate, track, and report on self-review course selection, tracking, and timelines. Facilitate meetings, follow up on outstanding courses, ensure compliance with the self-review process, and offer suggestions for continual improvements.
- Align with published quality standards and best practices related to design and instruction; maintain the framework for developing and maintaining Quality Matters (QM) courses.
- Manage the relationship with Quality Matters as a QM coordinator, initiating and assigning reviews for Quality Matters certification.
- Construct and promote courses based on Quality Matters as a best practice, ensuring that developed and reviewed courses meet quality assurance initiatives and requirements.
- Oversee instruction, processes, and scheduling training options for faculty and staff for Online Certifications, QM certifications, Peer Review certifications, and Master Reviewer certifications.
- Apply pedagogical and instructional design expertise to provide reviews and recommendations regarding developing QM components. Recruit and maintain a quality-certified peer team to conduct course reviews; oversee, initiate, and participate in internal peer course reviews.
- Initiate, coordinate, and review all DL Fast Track certification requests.
- Oversee, facilitate, and create course assignments for the collaborative course design process.
- Provide training to Enrollment Management and Student Success staff to support students with Learning Management System basic questions and navigation.
- Oversee one-on-one faculty support for best practices in course design.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Brightspace support to test monthly LMS updates, training, and functionality documentation for LMS.
- Support training in collaboration with CTL and employee training for faculty.
- Oversee the creation, editing, and publication of the IIS monthly newsletter.
- Oversee the review and update of the student jumpstart, online instructor resources, online student resources, faculty online certification courses, and self-review courses.
- Provide customized training and workshops related to Learning Management Support to meet faculty needs.
- Support the development of new programs and review and redesign courses as needed with the college-wide internal program review process (CIPR).
- Facilitate, manage, and assign courses and communication regarding the faculty-self review process.
- Coordinate with AA leadership and assist in identifying, planning, and implementing curriculum design, development, and emerging technology to support student persistence and completion.
- Stay current with adult learning models, instructional design, dissemination techniques, and strategic enhancements.
- Participate in regular process improvement planning and opportunities for training with instructional consultants to support student success.
- Provide analysis, research, and other related activities to support ongoing curriculum design and development projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
AND
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the training profession including three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
Preferences:
- Three (3) years of direct teaching experience, including direct face-to-face classroom instruction and experience teaching in at least two instructional modalities.
- Direct experience independently resolving academic or operational issues with limited supervision, while appropriately escalating issues that require leadership awareness, decision-making, or intervention.
- Direct experience responding effectively to unexpected issues or changes in established processes, including identifying alternative solutions when needed.
- Direct experience introducing or implementing new ideas, processes, or approaches that improve efficiency, communication, service, or outcomes.
