About the Role
DayOne is building its flagship hyperscale data center campus in Lahti, on a former industrial site in Kiveriö. The campus is designed to use Finland's naturally cool climate for free cooling, with air-cooled chillers that remove the need for freshwater cooling. Join the Lahti team early and help shape how a campus of this scale is built, commissioned, and run.
As a Critical Services Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Management System (BMS) engineering teams, as well as managing the 24/7 shift team to ensure uninterrupted operations of the data centre.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
Leadership and Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the mechanical, electrical, and BMS engineering teams to support high performance and professional growth.
- Oversee the 24/7 shift team, ensuring effective communication and coordination to maintain continuous operations.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure the efficient and reliable operation of all critical systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, generators, UPS, and BMS.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and emergency response.
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
SLA Compliance
- Ensure all operations and maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with SLAs.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure compliance and performance.
- Address and resolve issues that could impact SLA compliance.
Project Management
- Manage and oversee critical infrastructure projects, including upgrades, expansions, and maintenance.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all operations adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and drills to support team readiness for emergency situations.
- Maintain documentation and records in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
Budget Management
- Develop and manage the budget for the critical services department.
- Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality.
Continuous Improvement
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging innovation and process enhancements.
- Stay informed about industry trends and technologies to support the adoption of best practices.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of experience in data centre operations or a similar critical infrastructure environment, including experience in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, generators, UPS, and BMS.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented approach with a collaborative working style.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Finnish is considered an advantage.
