New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Assistant Vice Provost for Global Education reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost, Global Education and Outreach.
The Assistant Vice Provost for Global Education (AVP) serves as a senior leader within the Office of Global Education (OGE) and expert advisor in international education to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Education and Outreach. The AVP is responsible for advancing the strategic priorities, administrative and academic integration, and organizational effectiveness of NYU Abu Dhabi's programs of global education, which serve both undergraduate and graduate students.
Working with the directors and senior managers across the Office of Global Education as well as senior leaders of other administrative and academic units at NYUAD, within the NYU Global Network, and at external institutions, the AVP oversees the execution of strategic initiatives, development and implementation of new programs and policies, and effective alignment of academic programs, quality assurance, student mobility, advising, operations, risk management, budgeting, staffing, reporting, and compliance.
The AVP proactively makes recommendations to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Education to ensure administrative and academic excellence, derives solutions for complex organizational and operational challenges, and serves as a senior escalation authority for matters affecting global education. The position also represents the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost and the Office of Global Education in designated institutional and external engagements at NYU, within the NYU Global Network, and with external institutions.
The Assistant Vice Provost leads a team of directors who administer the major programs within the Office of Global Education, including semester abroad, visiting students, summer programs, community-based global learning, student mobility, and J-Term. The role focuses on setting office-wide systems and standards, aligning teams and resources, overseeing policy, steering the performance and long-term viability of the program portfolio, and creating effective collaborations with the many offices at and beyond NYUAD that have critical interdependencies with Global Education.
Job Responsibilities:
Institutional Strategy and Leadership:
- Serves as a trusted thought partner to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost in the design, development, and implementation of strategic priorities for global education
- Aligns global education initiatives with institutional goals, academic priorities, enrollment objectives, and student success outcomes and facilitates communications towards this across University units
- Identifies emerging opportunities, risks, and trends affecting international higher education and global mobility
- Provides analysis and recommendations to inform leadership decision-making regarding emergency response, academic and community partnerships, and program development
- Supports major cross-institutional initiatives that advance global learning and international engagement in close collaboration with NYU Global Programs and NYU Shanghai
Organizational Leadership and Performance:
- Provides executive leadership to directors and senior managers across the Office of Global Education
- Implements organizational priorities and performance expectations established in consultation with the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost
- Leads office-wide planning, resource allocation, workforce strategy, and staff training and development initiatives
- Oversees budget planning and resource stewardship to ensure sustainable and effective operations
- Champions continuous improvement, operational excellence, and service effectiveness across the office portfolio
Governance, Policy, and Institutional Risk:
- Oversees implementation of governance structures, institutional policies, compliance frameworks, and standards supporting global education activities
- Ensures alignment with university regulations, international requirements, legal obligations, and risk management protocols
- Monitors geopolitical, regulatory, immigration, health, safety, and reputational developments affecting global programs and advises leadership accordingly
- Serves as a senior escalation point for complex student, faculty, operational, conduct, and safety and emergency matters
Integration and Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Serves as the principal integrator across global education functions, ensuring coordinated planning and execution across organizational boundaries
- Facilitates collaboration among academic programs and offices, student affairs, enrollment, risk management, finance, and NYU global network partners
- Resolves complex issues requiring cross-functional coordination and executive interventions
- Promotes alignment across programs, services, policies, and operational practices.
Institutional Representation and Strategic Partnerships:
- Represents the Office of Global Education and, as delegated, the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost in institutional, governmental, and external engagements related to global education
- Supports the development and maintenance of strategic relationships with NYU global sites, partner institutions, sponsoring organizations, and external stakeholders
- Supports university leadership in partnership development, stakeholder engagement, social impact, and collaborative initiatives.
Student Success, Access, and Global Impact:
- Champions equitable access to global education opportunities
- Ensures global education initiatives support institutional commitments to inclusion, belonging, accessibility, and student success
- Oversees assessment of participation, educational outcomes, and program effectiveness
Qualifications
Required Education
- Master's Degree in a related field.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of progressively responsible leadership in higher education, international education, or global engagement
- Significant experience with study abroad, international partnerships, student mobility, exchange programs, or global learning
- Experience managing multiple teams, budgets, and strategic initiatives
- Experience developing policies, overseeing compliance, and working across academic and administrative units
- Demonstrated success building partnerships with international universities, governments, NGOs, or industry
- Excellent public speaking, negotiation, and intercultural communication skills
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic leadership, global education, higher education administration, governance, policy implementation, risk management, budgeting, and organizational effectiveness
- Exceptional ability to lead cross-functional teams, develop strategic partnerships, manage complex initiatives, communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, and drive organizational change while promoting student success, inclusion, and operational excellence
Preferred Education
- Doctoral Degree in a related field
Preferred Experience
- Scholarship in the field of international education or related fields, including research publication, conference presentations, and active participation in relevant professional organizations
- Having learned a foreign language and lived/worked outside their home country
