About This Job

Experienced data tester assigned to a delivery team or the shared pool. Owns test design and execution for complex work items, mentors Intermediate and Junior engineers, and deputises for the Data QA Lead when needed.

Job Description

• Perform quality assurance and quality control duties for the Enterprise Data Management and data development life cycle

• Engage from backlog refinement: review requirements and technical specifications, define acceptance criteria and design tests before development starts

• Define, prepare, execute and implement data validation, unit, integration, regression and source to target testing across SSIS, dbt, Fivetran, Python ingestion and Databricks pipelines

• Own testing for complex or high risk work items, including performance and security related checks against the practice quality gates

• Support periodic quantitative and qualitative data audits on post-production data sets

• Document defects in Azure DevOps with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence; drive them to closure with developers

• Contribute automated checks to the practice regression suite and help convert manual tests to automation

• Mentor Intermediate and Junior engineers; review their test designs, queries and defect reports

• Work with business analysts, developers, data architects and Tableau developers to understand scope and build comprehensive test plans

• Leverage AI/LLM-powered tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) to accelerate test case generation, synthetic data and query review, validating AI-assisted output before use in production test cycles

• Utilize Agile methodologies; participate in daily scrums, testing, code reviews, build release and other recurring meetings

• Deputise for the Data QA Lead in ceremonies and release sign-off when required

Required Key Knowledge Skills/ Experience

• 5+ years in QA testing, with 3+ years in a data engineering or data warehousing environment

• Strong SQL for data validation, reconciliation and profiling; working Python for test scripting

• Hands-on experience testing ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse loads

• Experience with test design techniques, risk-based coverage and estimation

• Experience with Azure DevOps or equivalent for defect and test management

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex concepts for technical and non-technical audiences

• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and a strong track record of meeting delivery commitments

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on experience with Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows/Jobs) or other Big Data/Spark platforms

• Familiarity with the medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and Delta Lake validation techniques

• Experience with data test automation frameworks and CI/CD

• Experience testing Tableau or other BI reporting layers

• Banking or financial services industry experience

Education requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
