Position Summary
Tacten is currently recruiting for Journeyperson Stainless Welders to support our upcoming Fall Turnaround at our client site, CNRL, in Fort McMurray, AB!
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a major turnaround project, expand your technical expertise in stainless steel welding, and work alongside industry-leading professionals in a dynamic industrial setting.
Position Details:
- Start Date: ~September 8, 2026
- Location/Site: CNRL Horizon - Fort McMurray, AB
- Rotation: 6/1, 12 hour shifts
- Travel: Fly-in/Fly-out from Alberta hubs, Edmonton or Calgary
- Camp accommodations provided
- Certification Requirements: IRATA certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to project start)
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality welding on stainless steel piping, pressure piping, vessels, and structural components using GTAW (TIG), SMAW, and other approved welding processes.
- Complete root, fill, and cap passes on stainless steel materials while maintaining strict quality standards.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, blueprints, isometric drawings, welding procedures (WPS), and engineering specifications.
- Prepare materials by measuring, cutting, fitting, beveling, and assembling stainless steel components.
- Set up, inspect, and maintain welding equipment and tools to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Produce welds that meet project specifications and successfully pass visual inspection and non-destructive examination (NDE), including radiographic (RT) and ultrasonic (UT) testing where applicable.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Repair and rework welds as required while maintaining productivity and workmanship standards.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and quality documentation.
- Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Work effectively with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to meet turnaround schedules and project milestones.
Requirements
Position Requirements:
- Journeyperson Welder Certification required.
- Valid ABSA B-Pressure Certification.
- Valid PQ Welding Card for applicable stainless steel procedures (F3/F4).
- CWB SMAW All-Position Certification considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience welding stainless steel piping and pressure systems in industrial or turnaround environments.
- Experience with GTAW (TIG) stainless steel welding required.
- Additional alloy welding qualifications (Duplex, Inconel, Chrome, CCO, etc.) are considered strong assets.
- IRATA certification (any level) is required or willingness to obtain prior to project start.
Safety Certifications:
- CSTS-09 or OSSA BSO
- CSO (Common Safety Orientation)
- H2S Alive
- Additional client-required safety certifications may be required prior to mobilization.

- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
