Summary:

The RN Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering competent, individualized nursing care to patients and families by utilizing the nursing process to augment the established medical plan of treatment. Operating with a strong team orientation, this nurse integrates sound clinical judgment and evidence-based decision-making to address the unique needs of each patient. The role emphasizes exceptional customer relations and professional communication, ensuring that care is delivered with both clinical precision and a high level of service excellence. By maintaining a focus on safety and collaborative practice, the RN Staff Nurse serves as a vital advocate for the patient while contributing to the overall effectiveness of the healthcare team.

3 North

Nurses on this unit care for patients with conditions such as diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia, adrenal disorders, thyroid disorders, and other endocrine diagnoses. Care often involves close monitoring of blood glucose levels, insulin therapy, electrolyte balances, and nutritional support. Cook Children’s is 1 of 8 Hyperinsulinism Center of Excellence in the world. Patients seek out care for this diagnosis from all over the country to be treated by the team on 3 North. 

  

While 3 North is primarily an endocrinology unit, nurses also receive specialty training to safely care for behavioral health patients. This 17 bed unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities, and our nurses are trained to care for patients requiring additional monitoring support. 

Education/Experience

  • 1 Year of direct nursing experience.

  • 1 year of pediatric experience preferred.

  • Associate's in Nursing.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

  • Active, unrestricted TX Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • BLS - American Heart Association.

Post hire Requirements:

  • PALS or NRP and specialty certifications per unit guidelines.
