What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?
Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.
About the Associate SCADA Engineer Position
The Associate SCADA Engineer supports the hardware and software that keep Colonial Pipeline Company’s SCADA environment operating reliably. In this role, you will partner with technology, field, engineering, scheduling, and control center teams to troubleshoot issues, maintain applications, and strengthen your end-to-end knowledge of the SCADA system and its connected technologies.
You will complete your work in alignment with Colonial’s safety policies and procedures while demonstrating our core values of Safety, Personal Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork.
What You Get to Do
- Maintain the SCADA environment through commercial and custom-developed software applications.
- Partner with field technicians, analysts, and engineers to analyze and resolve issues involving instrumentation, remote terminal units (RTUs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), computers, human machine interfaces, communications equipment, and SCADA software.
- Review, analyze, develop, design, and implement manual and automated methods and systems that support internal and external reporting requirements.
- Prepare, coordinate, or assist with special reports requested by the control center, engineering, executive, or other departments, including research, analysis, programming, and data compilation.
- Design, write, document, and maintain software applications that supplement core SCADA capabilities and align with published standards.
- Back up data, source code, and supporting files according to published standards.
- Provide after-hours and rotating on-call SCADA support for 24/7 control center operations.
- Build and maintain end-to-end knowledge of the SCADA system, including its connectivity to and functions with other systems.
- Support departmental goals and assist the business with emergency response efforts, which may include training, short-term travel, and backfill duties.
What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline. In lieu of a related bachelor’s degree, three years of SCADA experience within the liquid pipeline industry will be considered.
- One to three years of relevant experience. Recent graduates with a strong aptitude for technology and enterprise systems will also be considered, and internship or co-op experience may qualify.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical software.
- A detail-oriented, results-focused approach with reliable attendance and the ability to maintain focus through task completion.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong initiative, sound judgment, a safety-oriented mindset, and the ability to work extended periods at a computer.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Skills That Set You Apart
- Three years of experience maintaining liquid pipeline SCADA applications and databases, including hardware configuration, system tuning, application development, documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- SCADA experience in a pipeline, process, or energy environment.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems in a liquid pipeline environment.
- Experience with, or the ability to rapidly learn, AVEVA Enterprise SCADA, Windows desktop, Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, .NET Framework, C, C#, and Visual Basic in a Microsoft Windows Server environment.
- SCADA certification, such as AVEVA Enterprise SCADA.
