Job Summary

PPI Quality & Engineering is seeking an experienced Resident Mechanical and Ex-Certified Inspector to support a major energy project at a supplier facility in Houston, Texas. The inspector will provide daily surveillance of manufacturing, assembly, testing, and quality activities associated with gas turbine packages and related mechanical equipment. This is a resident assignment requiring consistent onsite coverage, detailed inspection reporting, and close coordination with supplier personnel and project quality representatives.

Mileage and travel time are not reimbursable or billable for this resident assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend the supplier facility daily to monitor manufacturing, assembly, inspection, testing, and quality activities.
  • Perform mechanical inspections in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans, project specifications, drawings, procedures, and applicable industry standards.
  • Monitor activities identified through Notices of Inspection and confirm that required inspection points are properly witnessed or reviewed.
  • Inspect gas turbine packages, associated mechanical equipment, components, materials, and supporting documentation.
  • Verify compliance with applicable hazardous-area and explosion-protection requirements.
  • Review material certificates, inspection records, test reports, welding documentation, calibration records, and other quality documentation.
  • Confirm that inspection and testing activities are performed using approved procedures and properly calibrated equipment.
  • Identify quality concerns, deviations, nonconformances, and potential schedule risks.
  • Communicate inspection findings promptly to the appropriate project representatives.
  • Issue a Flash Report following each day of inspection activity.
  • Prepare and submit a comprehensive weekly inspection report summarizing activities, findings, progress, concerns, and outstanding actions.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and traceable inspection records.
  • Monitor supplier progress against the approved manufacturing and inspection schedule.
  • Participate in quality meetings and coordinate with supplier personnel and project stakeholders as required.

Do you have what it takes?

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5years of mechanical inspection, vendor surveillance, quality control, or related experience within the oil and gas, power generation, petrochemical, or energy industries.
  • Current and applicable Ex inspection certification or demonstrated qualification in hazardous-area equipment inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment manufacturing, assembly, testing, and inspection processes.
  • Experience reviewing and working from Inspection and Test Plans, Notices of Inspection, engineering drawings, specifications, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to identify and document nonconforming conditions and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong technical report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently as an onsite inspection representative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection reporting tools.
  • Ability to work onsite five days per week for up to 10 hours per day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous inspection experience at the assigned supplier facility.
  • Direct experience inspecting gas turbine packages and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience performing resident vendor surveillance assignments.
  • Relevant mechanical, welding, coating, electrical, IECEx, CompEx, or hazardous-area inspection certifications.
