Heartline Staffing is recruiting an experienced Fire Protection Engineer for a full-time engineering opportunity in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position requires a licensed Professional Engineer with a Fire Protection Engineering license and healthcare-specific project experience to lead the design of complex fire protection, plumbing, medical gas and life-safety systems.

Serving as Engineer of Record, this professional will research, develop and produce comprehensive fire protection and mechanical construction drawings while providing technical ownership for complex healthcare projects. The position combines fire protection and plumbing system design with technical analysis, code compliance, field engineering and multidisciplinary coordination.

COMPENSATION
• $120,000-$180,000

FIRE PROTECTION & PLUMBING SYSTEM DESIGN
• Lead the design of fire protection and plumbing systems
• Design automatic sprinkler layouts
• Perform fire pump sizing
• Design medical gas systems
• Design domestic water-heating systems
• Develop comprehensive fire protection and mechanical construction drawings

HEALTHCARE & LIFE-SAFETY ENGINEERING
• Design life-safety systems for complex healthcare environments
• Perform critical system calculations
• Perform Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)
• Perform equipment selections
• Develop detailed construction documents and job-specific specifications for healthcare facilities

CODE COMPLIANCE
• Ensure designs comply with applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 13, NFPA 20 and NFPA 99
• Apply applicable ASHRAE requirements
• Apply International Building Code (IBC) requirements
• Maintain technically sound and code-compliant designs throughout project development

ENGINEER OF RECORD & LEADERSHIP
• Serve as Engineer of Record on complex projects
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff
• Mentor developing engineers

FIELD ENGINEERING
• Conduct field investigations
• Perform site visits
• Conduct construction inspections
• Verify design implementation and project progress

MULTIDISCIPLINARY COORDINATION
• Work with multidisciplinary design teams
• Coordinate directly with clients
• Integrate fire protection systems into the overall building design

TRAVEL
• Travel up to 20% depending on project needs

Requirements

• 8+ years as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) REQUIRED
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license REQUIRED
• Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) license REQUIRED
• Healthcare-specific project background REQUIRED
• NCEES Registration REQUIRED
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution REQUIRED
• High proficiency in Revit REQUIRED
• High proficiency in AutoCAD MEP REQUIRED
• High proficiency in Trace 3D REQUIRED
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite REQUIRED
• U.S. Citizenship due to Federal Contractor status REQUIRED
• Ability to travel up to 20% depending on project needs REQUIRED
• Ability to meet the Charlotte, NC in-office work requirement REQUIRED

• Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) credential
• LEED credential
• Green Globes credential
