Job Title: Specialty Rx Financial Assistance Specialist

Position Overview

The Specialty Rx Financial Assistance Specialist communicates with patients and physicians to secure patient assistance through grants, foundations, and manufacturer support for eligible patients. This position also assists in processing prior authorization claims as required. When needed, the Specialist assists pharmacists and technicians in the medically integrated pharmacy and may assist pharmacists with administrative tasks such as processing insurance claims, tracking inventory, and filing paperwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Navigate the healthcare system and its component parts to achieve prescription fulfillment/administration and improve patient outcomes
  • Provide advice as the subject matter expert to client sponsors and collaborate with stakeholders on opportunities to expand the health system’s services and increase revenue by supporting business plans to enhance pull-through opportunity
  • Support patients from an access and affordability perspective so they can receive their medications in a timely manner and with as little cost burden as possible
  • Complete prior authorizations, benefit verifications, EMR documentation, and related responsibilities
  • Provide quality customer service while maintaining a professional and polite manner with patients, staff, and support individuals
  • Serve as the primary contact and liaison between the company’s medical partners and the pharmacy for implementing and de-implementing client Rx benefits
  • Serve as the primary point of contact responsible for service delivery and as the “face to the customer”
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with clinic staff, physicians, and pharmacy contacts through personal interactions
  • Understand the intricacies of prescription drug benefits and how they adjudicate
  • Provide consultation or expert advice to management and build trust and confidence in patient services to increase patient referrals and prescription capture rates
  • Provide specialized information on matters relating to the processing of prior authorizations
  • Consult on and implement process improvements to integrate services for a better customer experience for physicians, clinic staff, patients, and the pharmacy
  • Research financial assistance options for patients through copay cards, foundations, and assistance programs
  • Work extended hours when needed to ensure patients receive their medication and to complete business plan objectives
  • Provide backup coverage to support clients and patients in the absence of other assigned resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two to four (2–4) years of related experience through an equivalent combination of education and experience OR four to five (4–5) years of related experience

Preferred:

  • Similar vocational preparation through completion of a two- to four-year degree

Credential/Licensure

Required:

  • PTCB certification or equivalent
  • Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy registration

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within West Cancer Center
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and email
  • Knowledge of medication and dose measurement
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology
  • Reliable with a keen eye for detail
  • Additional hours may be required

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Typical clinical environment with a moderate noise level
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands/wrists, climb or balance, talk, hear, and see for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work with fumes or airborne particles, risk of electric shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Ability to calculate weight-based dosing and apply concepts of basic mathematics
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables in routine situations
  • Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients
  • Maintain an excellent attendance record and report to work on time
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance
  • Comply with clinic safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Some travel may be required, including travel to multiple clinics to perform responsibilities
  • Extended hours may be required
