Schedule:   Monday through Friday including holidays.  Occasional nights/weekends may be required. 

Hours: 5:30 am - 2:30 pm or until finished. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible in assisting with supervising, supporting, and training Brooder House Worker Team Members engaged in attending to and caring for birds in brooding.  You must maintain an attendance point level of no more than 4 points.  Respirator certification is required and maintained by testing on an annual basis.  Respirator certification is preferred and maintained by testing on an annual basis.   Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adjusts controls as directed to regulate temperature in the chicken houses   Examines birds for signs of illness and treats them according to the Animal Welfare Guidelines.   (10 %)
  • Supervises and assists with: Feed and water birds according to schedules; walk floors daily, pick up mortality; records information according to instructions such as bird weight, medications, feed intake and mortality. (35 %)
  • Supervise and assist with:  Cleans and disinfects waterers and pens and performs routine housekeeping duties; repairs pens and equipment (feeders, waterers, lights, fans, etc.     (15 %)
  • Supervise and participate in hatch on specified days.  Assist or supervise activities on days R&D crew are on the facility.  Assist or supervise chick placements and live hauls.  Assist or supervise activities at the University of Arkansas Processing Plant. (20%)
  • Drive on farm vehicle and drives company vehicle to transport eggs and chicks between farm and hatchery.  Drive truck and trailer with birds from the farm to the UofA processing facility. *Must be able to pass a company vehicle DOT driver vehicle certification and drive/learn to drive with a trailer. (10%)    
  • Must be able to learn basic computer programs such as Outlook, Cobb Data Collection Programs,  Alchemy Training Program, Excel & Workday.   (10%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:

These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: inspects birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly; sanitation of break room, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles; properly euthanize selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.

Bio-security/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements:

The job site is a bio-secure environment which requires showering and changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.  Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company.  No jewelry may be worn on the job site except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.  Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Bio-security and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques.  Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 35 pounds to move items such as partitions, boxes of chicks, etc.   May be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as feed, shavings, etc.   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift on multiple surfaces; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; stoop/bend up to 500 times per day; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Tools and Equipment:  Requires use of hand tools such as wire cutters, pliers, wrenches, broom, squeegee, shovel, counter, vaccination gun, stick needle, eye drop bottle, animal tag pliers; power tools such as cordless drill, gas powered back-pack blower; equipment such as dump truck, skid-steer, tractor, trailer with gas-powered sprayer, pallet jack, lawn mower and weed-eater, catch-frames, scales, tables, scanners, extension cords, coops; safe operation of vehicle to and from work area.
  • Environment:  Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and work in hot, dry, extreme dusty, dark, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments. 
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required:  Safety glasses, Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof aprons, and company issued footwear are required.  Ear plugs and safety glasses will be used as required.   NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.  A respirator is required for formaldehyde application.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used:  Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Lysol, bleach, insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides, formaldehyde, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, Green Clean, etc.
  • Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.  TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
