The Associate position on the CVS Health Ventures (CVSHV) Market Development team is a highly analytical role sitting at the intersection of venture investing, corporate strategy, and portfolio value creation. In this role, you will help CVSHV stay closely connected to CVS Health’s evolving strategic priorities, deepen our team’s relationships across the enterprise, support portfolio companies in navigating and partnering with CVS Health, and contribute to high-priority strategic projects, and investment theses. This individual might also support diligence for investments as need and opportunity arise, however this is not primarily a direct investment role.

The role requires someone who is highly curious, experienced in healthcare, thrives in ambiguity, and excellent at building relationships. The strongest candidates know how to develop a point of view, prioritize what matters, and take ownership for driving work through to execution.

The Market Development team plays a critical role in achieving CVSHV’s dual objectives of optimizing financial returns and advancing enterprise strategy through our investments. This team fosters growth within our existing portfolio companies by facilitating collaboration with internal business teams and venture capital funds, while providing strategic guidance and support to help them achieve their objectives. Additionally, Market Development enhances enterprise value across various business lines through insight generation, strategic support, and seamless orchestration of high value connections. 

Core Responsibilities: 

Enterprise Engagement & Strategic Intelligence: 

  • Drive the day-to-day direction of CVSHV’s engagement strategy with CVS Health business teams, guiding our team’s approach to relationship coverage, staffing, engagement tracking, and follow-through 

  • Develop a strong understanding of CVS Health’s strategic priorities, organizational dynamics, and key initiatives through ongoing engagement with internal stakeholders, and translate that information into relevant insights for broader team 

  • Support selected special projects for CVSHV and executive leaders (e.g., investment committee and board-level materials) 

Portfolio Strategy & Value Creation: 

  • Evolve and optimize our portfolio value creation model to identify recurring needs across companies and formalize repeatable programs, resources, and approaches to address them 

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, connecting portfolio companies and relevant CVS Health stakeholders where there are mutual benefits and potential for strategic partnership  

  • Partnering with senior leaders on the CVSH Ventures team, drive in-depth portfolio reviews, and develop insights on portfolio performance, strategic value, and opportunities to create additional value 

  • Directly support portfolio growth for select companies, building relationships with management teams and contributing to strategic support and financial analysis  

Strategic Projects, Theses & Investment Support: 

  • Lead market and thesis development projects in support of CVS Health strategic initiatives and CVSHV investment opportunity areas 

  • Synthesize relevant market development insights including competitive dynamics, emerging trends, and investment landscape into high quality deliverables that support senior-level business strategy decisions and investment decision-making 

  • Contribute to fund of fund investment diligence and program management, as needed 

Administrative Support and Travel: 

  • Support administrative functions such as organizing meetings/events, coordinating logistics, and managing related communications 

  • 10-15% travel expected 

Required Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of professional experience (internships excluded) in in management consulting, corporate strategy, strategic partnerships, venture capital/corporate venture capital, or similar roles 

  • Experience in healthcare, healthcare services, or healthcare technology markets  

  • Demonstrated ability to drive ambiguous work independently and transform analysis into actionable insights and recommendations 

  • Strong independent judgement and intellectual curiosity, including the ability to build a point of view, challenge assumptions constructively, and update conclusions over time 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience distilling complex information for senior leaders 

  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across levels, functions, and workstreams 

  • High degree of ownership and follow-through 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with financial modeling, market analysis, company assessment, and/or investment diligence 

  • Experience supporting portfolio companies, value creation initiatives, strategic partnerships or other platform functions in an investment organization 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required 

Location 

  • Work from home, New York City or Boston [expectations to come into office 1-2 days a week]

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$111,240.00 - $222,480.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
