The Restaurant General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operations, financial performance, and guest experience of The Dan, Cass Street Coffee and breakfast at Hotel Flor. This role sets the tone for the restaurant’s culture and service standards while ensuring a consistently exceptional dining experience for hotel guests, local guests, and special events.
The ideal candidate is a highly visible, hands-on hospitality leader with a passion for food, beverage, service, and people. The Restaurant General Manager will lead by example, develop a high-performing team, maintain operational excellence, and drive the restaurant toward its financial and guest-experience goals.
What are we looking for?
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and inspire the restaurant management and service teams.
- Establish a positive, accountable, and service-driven culture.
- Recruit, train, onboard, and retain talented hospitality professionals.
- Develop managers and team members through ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance development.
- Create clear expectations for appearance, professionalism, hospitality, and performance.
- Build strong relationships with hotel leadership and other Hotel Flor departments.
Restaurant Operations
- Oversee all daily restaurant operations, including opening and closing procedures, service, reservations, guest flow, private events, and dining room standards.
- Ensure consistent execution of The Dan’s service standards and operating procedures.
- Maintain a strong floor presence during peak periods and actively engage with guests and employees.
- Ensure food, beverage, and service quality consistently meet or exceed expectations.
- Partner with the culinary team to ensure seamless communication and execution between the front and back of house.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and company policies.
- Monitor staffing levels and schedules to appropriately support business volume while controlling labor costs.
Guest Experience
- Create a memorable, welcoming, and personalized experience for every guest.
- Develop relationships with regular guests, hotel guests, VIPs, and local clientele.
- Resolve guest concerns professionally, promptly, and with sound judgment.
- Monitor guest feedback and identify opportunities to continually improve the experience.
- Represent The Dan and Hotel Flor as a highly visible ambassador within the property and local community.
Financial & Business Management
- Take ownership of restaurant revenue, profitability, and overall financial performance.
- Manage food, beverage, labor, and operating expenses within established budgets.
- Review sales and financial reports and develop strategies to improve profitability.
- Monitor labor productivity and scheduling efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue through menu offerings, beverage sales, events, promotions, and guest engagement.
- Maintain appropriate inventory controls, minimize waste, and unnecessary expenses.
- Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning.
Sales, Marketing & Events
- Partner with hotel leadership and sales/marketing teams to drive restaurant awareness and revenue.
- Help develop promotions, special events, activations, and programming that align with The Dan’s brand.
- Build relationships with local businesses, community partners, and hotel guests.
- Support private dining, group dining, and special event opportunities.
- Maintain an active presence in the local hospitality community.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive restaurant management experience; General Manager experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in upscale, polished casual, resort, or high-volume restaurant environments preferred.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse hospitality team.
- Strong knowledge of restaurant operations, service standards, labor management, and financial controls.
- Demonstrated ability to drive revenue while maintaining high standards of quality and service.
- Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with restaurant POS, reservation, scheduling, and inventory systems.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
