Job Description Summary

Position Objective:

Sunbelt Rentals operates over 1,500 North American branch locations. The Branch Standardization Manager executes the "Sunbelt Standard" in the field. This road warrior owns the physical implementation of the Branch Standardization Playbook across assigned territories.

Customer Obsession drives this role. The manager works directly with branches to deploy the 5S + 1 methodology and visual management systems. You will brand yourself as an accessible thought leader. You will audit branches against our compliance maturity model. Your work ensures every branch delivers consistent, safe, and efficient experience to enhance customer experience.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Playbook Implementation: Deploy the Sunbelt Branch Standard Playbook on-site. Optimize layouts, implement color-coded zoning, centralize parts staging, install permanent visual management systems, implement checking and audit mechanisms, and deploy key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Field Coaching & Thought Leadership: Coach branch teams daily. Brand yourself as the territory's operational thought leader. Conduct workshops that translate standard work into daily muscle memory. Use emotional intelligence to adapt your coaching style to meet individual branch needs.
  • Relationship Building & Alignment: Build relationships early. Read the room to identify cultural barriers to standardization. Serve as the trusted liaison between the Support Office (Corporate Office) and Branch Managers. Adapt your engagement strategy based on the specific branch environment to remove roadblocks.
  • Auditing & Maturity Tracking: Conduct rigorous facility audits using our compliance maturity model. Baseline initial conditions, score progress, and certify locations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Build feedback loops to drive continuous improvement. Identify localized bottlenecks. Capture and scale good practices, like custom jigs or Poka-Yoke mechanisms, across the territory.
  • Safety Integration: Partner with safety leadership to mitigate operational hazards. Exercise sharp situational awareness to identify safety risks. Help build safe practices into each identified process area.
  • Reporting: Document baseline and post-implementation conditions using photos and KPI dashboards. Present field progress, KPI reports and improvements to regional leaders.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field. Alternatively, substitute this degree with 5+ years of operational experience at companies known for rigorous deployment of the Shingo Model, Toyota Management System, or Danaher Business System (DBS).

  • Experience: 3–7 years of hands-on experience in continuous improvement, multi-site operations, or field-based program management (construction, industrial, or heavy equipment environments preferred).

  • Technical Expertise: Deploy 5S systems, Lean principles, and visual management controls directly on the shop floor.

  • Emotional Intelligence: Read interpersonal cues accurately. Resolve conflict constructively. Influence stakeholders at all levels to drive culture shifts without direct reporting authority.

  • Situational Awareness: Assess environmental and cultural contexts quickly. Adapt implementation plans to fit unique branch needs while maintaining core standards.

  • Communication & Influence: Communicate exceptionally well. Establish trust early and build consensus across diverse, cross-functional teams.

  • Analytical Skills: Apply a data-driven approach. Link physical facility conditions to lagging operational metrics, like equipment turnaround time.

  • Travel: Possess a "road warrior" mentality. Travel up to 80% across the assigned territory or across territories as needed.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job.  Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind, or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work.  All duties must be performed according to Sunbelt’s safety policies and guidelines.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to comply with ADA/ADAAA.

The above description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job.  The description shall not, however, be construed as a complete listing of all miscellaneous, incidental or similar duties which may be required from day to day.
