WHAT DO WE DO?

CHSI is a private, non-profit organization established in 1973 to serve the health needs of migrant & seasonal farmworkers and their family members. Today, CHSI has expanded services and provides mental & physical healthcare to all individuals in our communities. Our services are provided on a more affordable sliding fee scale to those who are under-insured or un-insured. We also accept ND and MN Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance plans. We currently operate four nurse-managed clinics, two mobile medical units, and two victim advocacy program centers in Minnesota & North Dakota.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are on the search for a Full-time Dental Assistant Apprentice to join our Moorhead, MN team.

Community Health Service Inc. (CHSI) is seeking a motivated individual interested in beginning a career in dental assisting through the Minnesota Association of Community Health Centers (MNACHC) Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program.

This full-time apprenticeship provides an opportunity to earn while you learn. The selected apprentice will be employed by CHSI while participating in the MNACHC Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program, which combines structured education with supervised, hands-on training in a clinical dental setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Dental Assistant Apprentice will receive training and experience in areas such as:

• Assisting dentists and dental team members during patient care
• Preparing treatment rooms for dental procedures
• Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing dental instruments and equipment
• Following infection prevention and safety procedures
• Preparing patients for dental treatment
• Learning dental charting and documentation
• Maintaining dental supplies and treatment areas
• Providing professional and compassionate service to patients
• Completing required apprenticeship coursework and training
• Participating in supervised on-the-job training with an assigned coach
• Performing other duties appropriate to the apprenticeship program

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Interest in pursuing a career in dental assisting
• Ability to participate in and successfully complete the MNACHC Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Dependable, organized, and willing to learn
• Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team
• Previous dental assisting experience is not required

Schedule

This is a full-time position with an anticipated start date of January 2027. The selected candidate must be able to meet both CHSI's work schedule requirements and the training requirements of the MNACHC Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program.

Apprenticeship Program

The selected candidate will be employed by CHSI while completing the MNACHC Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program. The program provides a combination of structured learning and on-the-job training designed to prepare the apprentice for a career in dental assisting.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Ability to bend and crouch occasionally, sit continuously, and stand or walk frequently.
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to use hands/arms, feet/legs for repetitive fine to large motor skill movements.
