🌟Valves electrical project engineering, electrical support for Valves manufacturing and aftersales.
The responsibility of this Valve Converter Electrical Project Delivery Team is to deliver Valves electrical engineering covering valve design, valve type test and site pre-commissioning documents for tenders and projects by using standardised processes, tools, documentations.
The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and rapidly growing team of engineers working on the project activities related to HVDC applications.
This is a very exciting and dynamic field of power engineering in which GE’s leading contribution has worldwide recognition to power global energy transition.

Whilst based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford there will be international travel opportunities to collaborate with other GE units, test laboratories and customer sites.
The role requires on-site work in Stafford, UK, 3 days a week (non-negotiable).
Job Description
Role Overview / Core Requirements:
HVDC/Tendering: The successful candidate must have advanced experience in HVDC tendering.
Technical Balance: The role is 50–60% hands-on engineering/design (reviewing calculations, simulations, site tests) and 40–50% leadership (mentoring a sub-team of 5–6 engineers, resource allocation, and project delivery).
Experience Profile: While HVDC experience is ideal, we are open to candidates from the automotive (traction inverters) or power supply industries who can quickly learn the higher-wattage power electronics required.
System-Level Perspective: A candidate with "full-cycle" experience (concept, prototype, test, manufacturing support) is highly desirable, as this helps with the prioritisation and quality control required in tendering.
Operational Constraints:Â Location: The role requires on-site work in Stafford, UK, three days a week (non-negotiable).
Responsibilities:
Responsible for Valves design to size converter valve and cooling plant for tender and project;
Responsible for Valves type test documentations by using design tools
Responsible for Valves site electrical pre-commissioning test documents and approve of test results for correct performance of converters valve on site.
Schedule and forecast the team’s work, define priorities and resource management;
Team and people development through knowledge sharing and mentoring;
Foster an environment of knowledge sharing, mentoring, developing within the team;
Effectively communicates throughout internal and external functions, and clients.
Ensure engineering processes, best practice and GE process is followed to deliver technical documents with the correct quality levels to meet the client and internal requirements;
Collate and report teams KPI’s to deliver on time as per project schedule;
Review and approve technical documents and ensure on time delivery;
Lead team in solving challenging technical issues;
Proactive interaction with other engineering departments for product definition (System design, Valve Converter Mechanical, Main Scheme, Layout, Commercial);
Ability to make independent decisions to deliver technical document and support with the correct quality levels to meet the client and internal requirements for the work scope of the team;
Ensure that work performed considers applicable international standards and policies
Candidate Profile
The candidate will be educated to degree level in electrical or electronic engineering and have significantly demonstrated experience in Power Electronics Converter design.
Candidates must have proven experience of the design and/or development of power electronic converters (preferably at high power >1MVA).
An advanced understanding of power semiconductors, their control, protection and application is required.
Previous experience of management of technical issues with client and contract is preferred.
An enquiring mind and desire to learn new skills, an ability to apply different engineering disciplines and a willingness to share the knowledge are essential qualities.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Educated to degree level in electrical, electronic engineering degree or equivalent.
Required Characteristics:
Power electronic converters (motor drives, power converter, HVDC and FACTS applications)
High power electronic components (IGBTs, thyristors, passive components)
Thermal Design (loss calculations, heatsink specification liquid cooling)
Power electronic converters electrical design to size converter valves
High voltage engineering and testing
Specification & report writing, checking and approving
Simulation tools such as Matlab-Simulink, PSCAD-EMTDC
Power electronic converters type testing and site pre-commissioning
Requirements capture
Risk analysis
EHS compliance ability
Advanced communication skills

Thermal and hydraulic design (e.g. loss temperature calculations, thermal modelling, thermal characteristics of material, pressure drop calculations)
