Job Description:

Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Manager and Administrative Director, the Charge Technologist - Histology/Cytology will plan, organize and coordinate all activities related to Histology and Cytology. They will assist and direct technical staff in performing their duties to assure high quality of performance and compliance with standards.

Requirements:
• Current CMLTO registration (Histology or Cytology)
• Advanced Registered Technologist, relevant bachelor’s degree or certificate program preferred
• Minimum five (5) years recent histology or cytology leadership experience and six (6) years overall histology experience
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams

• Experience participating in digital pathology implementation or transformation projects.
• Possesses advanced knowledge and skills in laboratory procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques related to Histology, including Immunohistochemistry
• Ability to manage staffing, scheduling, coordinate competency assessment evaluations, workload and workflow in all areas of the histopathology laboratory including grossing, histology and cytology areas
• Demonstrated experience in evaluation, development & implementation of new methodologies, equipment
• Evidence of sound understanding of the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH) standards
• Ability to organize, prioritize and direct daily team workload in grossing, histology and cytology areas
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
• Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with colleagues, physicians, patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
• Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgment
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
• Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to SHN safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
• Demonstrated pattern of good attendance
