Senior Platform Reliability Engineer - Azure

Job Summary

We are seeking an expert Senior Azure Platform Engineer to develop, build, automate, and operate highly available, scalable, and secure cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in cloud infrastructure, automation, platform reliability, DevOps practices, and production support. This role focuses on improving service reliability, performance, operational efficiency, and developer productivity through automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and observability standard methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, deploy, administer, and optimize Azure cloud infrastructure, including Compute, Storage, Networking, Security, and Kubernetes services (AKS).
• Manage and maintain Azure Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, Virtual Networks, NSGs, Load Balancers, VPN Gateways, and ExpressRoute connectivity.
• Implement and lead IaC solutions using Terraform and ARM Templates.
• Build, enhance, and support CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and Gitlab Actions to streamline software delivery and operational processes.
• Improve the entire service lifecycle from architecture and design through deployment, operation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Lead availability, resource requirement planning , performance monitoring, and reliability initiatives for business-critical applications and platforms.
• Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and related tools.
• Develop automation solutions to reduce operational overhead, eliminate repetitive tasks, and prevent recurring incidents.
• Maintain and improve platform security through RBAC, Azure Policies, Key Vault, governance controls, and compliance standard processes.
• Build and support high-availability, backup, DR and business continuity solutions.
• Conduct incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), problem management, and performance tuning activities for production environments.
• Support sustainable operations by developing automated responses for routine service conditions and scaling systems efficiently through automation.
• Collaborate closely with application development, architecture, security, and operations teams to deliver resilient and scalable solutions.
• Participate in system design reviews, cloud resource planning(capacity planning), launch readiness assessments, and operational excellence initiatives.
• Create and maintain user documentation, operational runbooks, and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Mentor junior engineers and define engineering standard processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and maintain scripts, tools, and software components using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or other programming languages to support platform operations.

Required Skills & Technical Expertise

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Compute Services Azure Storage Azure Networking Azure Security & Governance
• Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM Templates)
• CI/CD pipeline implementation and management
• PowerShell, Python, and/or Bash scripting
• Windows and Linux system administration
• Monitoring, Logging, and End-to-End Observability Capabilities
• High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Performance Optimization
• Cloud Security, RBAC, Azure Policy, and Key Vault implementation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, Software Engineering, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, distributed systems, and reliability engineering principles.
• Experience in software development and automation using one or more programming languages is an advantage.

Experience Required

• 7-10 years of overall IT Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
• Experience handling and supporting large-scale production environments and critical applications.
• Proven expertise in automation, infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, fixing.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work optimally in multi-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400, or equivalent.
• Experience with containerization, Kubernetes operations, and cloud-native architectures.
• Knowledge of reliability engineering, observability, and platform engineering standard methodologies.
• Experience implementing enterprise-scale cloud governance and security controls.
