***This is an internal recruitment open only to King County employees who have completed their probation. This recruitment will be used to fill 1 Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position, and it is anticipated to end December 31, 2027.

The King County Department of Local Services is seeking a detail-oriented Fiscal Specialist III to support the Finance team within the Road Services Division. Reporting to the Accounts Payable Supervisor (Business & Finance Officer IV), this position provides essential accounts payable (AP) support for the Maintenance section at the Renton Maintenance facility.

We are looking for active learners, who are adaptable, reliable and action oriented. In this role, you will process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, purchase card transactions, and check payments. You will play a key part in maintaining strong internal controls and ensuring audit readiness across the Division. About the Road Services Division - King County, Washi

  • Accounts payable operations, including invoice and payment processing, vendor management, independently obtaining budget charge coding, applying payments to established contracts as appropriate, and adhering to internal controls and policies.
  • Expense reporting and reconciliation for multiple projects.
  • Organize, track, code, prepare, process, and maintain data sources, such as invoices, contract documents, electronic retention systems, and other financial, accounting, and fiscal records.
  • Verify accuracy of accounting documentation; Identify accounting inconsistencies and errors and prepare corrections.
  • Prepare, review, and approve purchase requisitions, and expense reports.
  • Review, Research, Correct and summarize specialized and technical information from varied sources using spreadsheets and customized database applications.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers; Communicate established policies, procedures, codes, regulations, and other relevant information via phone, in writing and in person.
  • Perform financial or other numeric work, requiring the application of accepted bookkeeping or basic accounting methods and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Process incoming mail and documents; identify and prioritize sensitive matters; maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Associate degree in accounting or closely related field or any combination of education, skills, training, and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing and prioritizing a heavy diverse assignment workload requiring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Desired Qualifications:

Working Experience with Oracle EBS, or other SAP systems

Knowledge of King County procurement policies and procedures

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE: 

Those applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in a 15-minute phone interview the week of October 19, 2026. If you are selected to move forward after the phone interview, you will be invited for a virtual practical assessment in the same week. 

Candidates who pass the practical assessment will move forward to a 45 minute in-person interviews in the week of October 26, 2026. 

WHO MAY APPLY: 

Special duty opportunities are open only to current King County career service employees who have completed their initial probation. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, King County Personnel Guidelines, or Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment. (if applicable)

WORK SCHEDULE:

The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay, with prior supervisor approval.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS: 

This position has been designated as non-Mission critical - Employees who staff county functions or services that may be delayed, suspended, or diverted in an emergency while essential functions are prioritized Mission Critical.

UNION MEMBERSHIP:

TELEWORKING REQUIREMENTS:

This is a hybrid position. We will work in the office at least three days a week to foster connection and responsiveness, arrive prepared and on time, and structure meetings with clear goals and next steps.

Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
