Description

Nicolet College is establishing a candidate pool for potential part-time Adjunct Faculty positions in Public Safety, with a focus on courses within the fire program. While specific positions may not be available at this time, submitting an application allows us to consider your qualifications for future opportunities that align with your skills and experience.
Adjunct Faculty positions are part-time roles with flexible teaching assignments and varying locations each term. Instructors may be assigned to teach at multiple sites throughout the Nicolet College District, including campuses, centers, and business locations. Teaching assignments may include evening, weekend, and online courses.
Reporting to the Dean of Public Safety & Transportation, Adjunct Faculty members play an important role in providing high-quality education and supporting student success throughout the district.
This candidate pool will remain open through June 30, 2027. This position will support instruction through a variety of formats, including:
  • Face-to-face classroom, laboratory, live-fire, and field-based instruction.
  • Hybrid and online instruction
  • Deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction aligned with Nicolet College's mission and values.
  • Teach theory, practical skills, and professional standards in fire. 
  • Demonstrate industry best practices and current techniques.
  • Provide individual and group coaching to help students master technical competencies.
  • Foster professionalism, customer service excellence, and workplace readiness.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide timely feedback and maintain regular communication with students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records.
  • Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems effectively.
  • Participate in curriculum improvement and program development initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain current industry knowledge, licensure, and professional certifications.
  • Support workforce and community education initiatives when opportunities arise.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Principles of adult learning and effective instructional practices.
  • Current fire service standards, regulations, certification requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Curriculum design, assessment methods, and competency-based education.
  • Learning management systems and instructional technologies used in higher education.
  • Safety practices applicable to classroom, laboratory and field instruction.
  • Deliver effective classroom, laboratory, live-fire and hands-on instruction.
  • Evaluate student learning through written, practical, and competency-based assessments.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Utilize instructional technology, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple instructional and administrative responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Adapt instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Foster an inclusive, professional, and safe learning environment.
  • Teach cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills required for fire and EMS education.
  • Build collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Analyze student performance and implement continuous instructional improvement.
  • Learn and apply new technologies, educational practices, and industry developments.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Fire Protection, Fire Science, Emergency Services, or a related field. Degree requirement may be waived for instructors teaching continuing education (CEU) courses only.
  • Current Wisconsin Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I certification.
  • Current Wisconsin Firefighter II certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years (4,000 hours) of paid or volunteer experience related to the program(s) being taught.
    • At least one (1) year (2,000 hours) of the required experience must have been acquired within the past five (5) years.
    • In lieu of the recent occupational experience requirement, applicants may qualify with:
      • Two (2) years of postsecondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the past five (5) years, defined as:
        • Eight (8) semesters of part-time teaching, or
        • Four (4) semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited postsecondary institution.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection, Emergency Services, Education, or a related field.
  • Wisconsin Fire Officer I certification.
  • Wisconsin Driver/Operator – Pumper Certification.
  • Hazardous Materials Technician Certification.
  • Fire Inspector I Certification.
  • Wisconsin Live Fire Instructor Certification.
  • Experience teaching fire service education in a Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) institution, fire academy, accredited training center, or similar educational setting.
  • Experience delivering instruction in classroom, laboratory, live-fire, and simulation-based environments.
  • Experience developing curriculum, lesson plans, assessments, or instructional materials for fire service education.
  • Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, JB Learning) and instructional technology.
  • Experience teaching in the online environment.
