Driver & Donations Associate

Reports to: ReStore Manager & Assistant Manager

GENERAL The role of the ReStore Associate is to assist with general operations of the ReStore, servicing the needs of both shoppers, donors, and volunteers. The ReStore Associate assists customers with sales and requests for information, processes and organizes donations, thanking donors for their support, and works closely with our volunteers. As an integral part of our team, this position has a significant impact on the success of our ReStores and our ability to raise funds and awareness in support of Habitat’s mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safely operate the ReStore box truck for donation pickups, demonstrating strong defensive driving skills, sound judgment, and courtesy to other drivers.
• Perform frequent physical work associated with donation pickups, including lifting, carrying, maneuvering, loading, and unloading furniture, appliances, building materials, and other large or heavy donated items.
• Safely load and secure donations in the truck to prevent injury or damage during transport.
• Work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers to safely move bulky, awkward, and heavy merchandise using appropriate equipment and lifting techniques.
• Travel to donor homes and businesses, assess donations for acceptance, and politely decline items that do not meet ReStore donation criteria.
• Complete required donation pickup paperwork, vehicle documentation, and other records accurately and promptly.
• Provide courteous and professional service to donors during pickups, thanking them for their support and explaining how their donations help advance Habitat's mission in the local community.
• Receive, unload, process, price, and move donated merchandise throughout the warehouse and sales floor.
• Maintain inventory on the sales floor, including regularly moving and rearranging furniture and other merchandise to create a safe and inviting shopping environment.
• Provide exceptional customer service to shoppers and donors and foster a welcoming ReStore atmosphere.
• Answer customer and donor questions in person, by phone, and via email promptly and courteously.
• Support cash register operations and other sales-floor functions as needed.
• Assist with housekeeping and general maintenance of the store, warehouse, donation receiving areas, and vehicles.
• Help maintain a safe working and shopping environment by consistently following safe work practices and providing safety guidance to volunteers, particularly when moving heavy or bulky merchandise.
• Build positive working relationships with a diverse group of volunteers, providing direction, encouraging teamwork, and helping create a collaborative environment.
• Perform other ReStore duties as needed to support store operations, donation pickups, and the overall mission of Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity.

Additional Duties

• Participate in fundraising and events.
• Act as an ambassador to promote the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity.
• Assist with maintaining building safety and accessibility, including sidewalk snow removal.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid New York State Driver’s License and clean driving record (CDL not required).
• Enthusiasm for the mission and vision of Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity.
• Experience in retail, customer service, or non-profit work preferred.
• Customer Service Mindset
• Experience working with volunteers a plus.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and a team player.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.

Work Environment:

• Works in retail store and warehouse environment, as well as outdoors and on the road (driving), during inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Noise levels will be loud at times.

Physical Demands:

• Sitting, walking, and/or standing for extended periods.
• Climbing, bending, and kneeling.
• Regularly moving up to 50 pounds individually, and heavier items with assistance.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
