Department: Behavioral Health Unit
Shifts Available: Days
Employment Type: Full-time
Hours: 8-hour shifts (Monday through Friday)
Location: St. Joseph Medical Center- Kansas City, MO
The Behavioral Health Social Worker provides comprehensive psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, discharge planning, and care coordination for patients experiencing mental health, behavioral health, substance use, and emotional challenges. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team, this role supports patient recovery, promotes safety, and connects individuals and families with appropriate community resources and behavioral health services.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and behavioral health evaluations.
- Develop and implement patient-centered treatment and discharge plans.
- Provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and therapeutic interventions.
- Coordinate care with psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, case managers, and community agencies.
- Facilitate referrals to mental health, substance use disorder, and community support services.
- Advocate for patients and families while promoting continuity of care and positive patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with hospital, regulatory, and compliance standards.
Qualifications
Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, or related field.
- License required upon hire and maintained per state regulations; otherwise, state registration and/or supervision required.
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Minimum one (1) year Inpatient l or Outpatient Behavioral Health experience.
- Experience in working with a diverse population with a wide range of problems (i.e., death and dying, maternal and child care, substance abuse, disability, chronic illness, etc.).
