Baler Operator
Department: Recycling

Description
Key Responsibilities
- Operate baling machinery safely and efficiently to process recyclable materials.
- Monitor baler performance and report any faults, damage, or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all bales are produced to required specifications, including weight, density, and quality standards.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic housekeeping around the baling area.
- Remove contamination from materials where required to maintain product quality.
- Maintain accurate production records and complete operational paperwork as required.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials using authorised equipment.
- Ensure work areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
- Follow all site procedures, safe systems of work, and environmental regulations.
- Support other operational activities across the site as directed by management.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve production targets and site objectives.
- Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental incidents immediately.
- Comply with all Enva Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies.
- Wear and maintain required PPE at all times.
- Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
- Take reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of others.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Good understanding of health and safety practices in an industrial environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Flexible approach to work and shift patterns.
- Previous experience operating balers or recycling processing equipment.
- Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.
- Experience within the waste management, recycling, or manufacturing sector.
- Knowledge of recyclable material grades and contamination standards.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Safety-conscious with strong attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Able to work independently and use initiative.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of housekeeping and operational efficiency.
- Working in a recycling and waste management environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and industrial noise.
- Manual handling required.
- Shift work, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays as required by operational needs.
- Adherence to health and safety standards.
- Achievement of production and throughput targets.
