Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Coordinator – Vascular Intermediate Care | Stepdown
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center.
Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Norfolk, VA
Position Status: Full-time, 36 hours per week
Shift: Night shift
Available Hours:
7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Weekends: Every other weekend
Holiday Rotation: Required
Looking for a nursing opportunity where you can sharpen your clinical skills, work with a highly collaborative team, and make a meaningful impact every shift? 9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. As part of the Surgical Specialty Team, our unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates who work side by side to deliver exceptional patient care.

On 9 Kaufman, you’ll care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also serves as an extension of our renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering closely with the outpatient transplant center to support patients through critical stages of care. Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing.

Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred
Certification/Licensure Requirements
Registered Nurse license required
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire
Experience Requirements
18 months RN experience required
Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Increase staff satisfaction and promotes excellent (Gold Standard) customer service.
